AccessRomance interviews author Tracy Anne Warren.
AR: Your debut novel, THE HUSBAND TRAP, was just released,
and the two sequels in this series will come out during the next two months. What
can you tell us about the books and the series?
Tracy Anne: THE HUSBAND TRAP, THE WIFE TRAP and THE WEDDING TRAP
are connected stories set in Regency era England and Ireland. All three books
are fun and sexy with lots of twists, turns and laughs.
The trilogy begins with THE HUSBAND TRAP when look-alike twin
sisters, Violet and Jeannette Brantford, decide to switch places just hours before
Jeannette is to wed handsome, powerful Adrian Winter, Duke of Raeburn, in front
of the cream of London Society. Secretly in love with Adrian, Violet agrees to
take her sister’s place. Soon Violet finds herself living her wildest dreams.
But will Adrian discover the ruse, and if he does, will Violet lose him forever?
THE WIFE TRAP follows right on the heels of the first book when
Jeannette Brantford finds herself banished to Ireland to live with boring elderly
cousins as punishment for her part in the switch. Yet life is anything but dull
when she tangles with gorgeous charmer, Darragh O’Brien, whom she mistakenly assumes
to be a commoner. In actuality, Darragh is the Earl of Mulholland yet he’s content
to let her believe he is no more than the architect hired to rebuild a wing of
her cousins’ estate. Soon Jeannette finds it hard to resist Darragh’s heated kisses
or the passion blazing between them.
In the final book, THE WEDDING TRAP, Violet enlists the aid of
her rakish, debonair brother-in-law Lord Christopher “Kit” Winter to turn shy
wallflower Eliza Hammond into a Society belle. There’s just one problem: Eliza
has always been head over heels in love with Kit, the very man who is trying to
find her a husband! During Eliza’s transformation, passionate sparks start to
fly between them, along with a few secret kissing lessons. But will Kit wait too
long to recognize his love for her and risk losing this fair lady forever.
AR: Had you planned to write a series like this, or was
that decided after you sold?
Tracy Anne: Originally THE HUSBAND TRAP was conceived as a stand
alone book. However, once I wrote the manuscript and my agent read it, she and
I realized that Jeannette and Kit’s stories simply had to be told. My editor enthusiastically
agreed and very soon after, the Trap Trilogy was born.
AR: Since you're a debut author, readers will be unfamiliar
with your work. Can you describe your writing style and the type of stories you
write, to give readers an idea of what to expect?
Tracy Anne: My writing is fast-paced and character driven with
large doses of humor and page turning emotion. Highly sensual, my stories are
filled with passion and no holds barred romance, all set against the elegant,
glitzy background of aristocratic Regency-era English society.
AR: 4. What's up next? Will there be more books in this
series, or are you working on something different?
Tracy Anne: For now there are no more books planned for the Trap
Trilogy, but who knows what the future may bring.
As for the present, I am extremely excited to tell you that I
am hard at work on my next Regency Historical trilogy for Ballantine/Ivy books.
The first novel is tentatively titled MY FAIR MISTRESS and the story is every
bit as sexy and fun as the title implies. Over the months to come, I will be updating
my website to keep readers informed about the books, storylines and release dates.
AR: How has your life changed since becoming a published
author? Do you write full time?
Tracy Anne: Well, my cats don’t treat me any differently, that’s
for sure. I’ll tell you there’s nothing like scooping out a litter box to bring
you right back down to earth. Seriously, I would say my life has changed in the
fact that I am now lucky enough to get paid to do something I love. It’s a rare
pleasure to be able to work in sweats, a T-shirt and socks, and to set my own
hours, even if those hours often span the clock and fall during weekends and holidays,
especially when I’m on deadline. I do write full-time (again I’m very lucky),
otherwise I’d never manage to get these trilogies finished.
And now for some questions posed by our readers of the AR
All-A-Blog.
AR Reader: If one of your books could be made into a movie,
which book would you want it to be and who would you want to play the hero and
heroine?
Tracy Anne: I would love to see THE WIFE TRAP made into a movie.
The panoramic views of Ireland in all its green beauty would be worth the film
alone, plus Jeannette and Darragh have such a fiery relationship they couldn’t
help but light up the screen. Actors to play them? Well, I would pick Gwyneth
Paltrow to play Jeannette (she would also be Violet by the way, a fun juxtaposition).
For Darragh, I would have to chose the deliciously dark and handsome Gerard Butler,
even though I believe he’s actually Scottish. I’m breathless already just thinking
of him in Regency garb.
AR Reader: If you could switch places with one of your
heroines, who would that be and why?
Tracy Anne: That’s a tough call but I think I would switch places
with Violet. She likes a quiet, contemplative life and loves to read—proclivities
both of us share. Plus, how hard could it be to find yourself married to a gorgeous
duke who loves you to pieces? Anybody know any available dukes out there?
AR Reader: Who is your hero real or fictional? And why?
Tracy Anne: My sister Leslie is my hero because she stood by me
during some pretty tough times in my life, giving me financial and emotional support
even though it meant making some big adjustments to own her life. She’s always
encouraged me to believe in myself and my talent, and to follow my dreams even
when others said to give up. Everyone should be lucky enough to have a friend
and supporter like my sister.
AR Reader: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Tracy Anne: Oh, I enjoy lots of authors. Some of my all-time favorites
are LaVryle Spencer, Judith McNaught, John Grisham, Dick Francis, Linda Howard,
and Nora Roberts along with her alter ego JD Robb. Lately I’ve found myself reading
a lot of paranormal romance. A few of my favorites there are Sherrilyn Kenyon,
JR Ward, Susan Sizemore and Angela Knight. Like millions of others, I read Dan
Brown’s Da Vinci Code and enjoyed it a lot. I’m looking forward to seeing
if the movie adaptation does the book justice.
AR Reader: What is something about you that your readers
would be completely surprised to find out?
Tracy Anne: That’s a bit of a tough one since I don’t consider
myself a very surprising person. But one thing that might be of interest is the
fact that my high school English teacher is Betina Krahn’s sister! Even I didn’t
find that out until years after graduation and unfortunately by then, I’d lost
touch with her. So here’s a shout out to Sharon Stone, a fellow writer and great
teacher. If you see this, Mrs. Stone, please drop me a line, I’d love to catch
up!
AR: Thank you for talking with us and answering our readers'
questions!
Tracy Anne: It was my very great pleasure to be here and have
an opportunity to share a bit about my books and myself with all of you. Wishing
everyone joy and happy reading! Tracy Anne
