AccessRomance interviews author Vivi Anna.

AR: This month sees the release of BLOOD SECRETS, a vampire romance from Silhouette Nocturne. Can you tell us a bit about the book?

Vivi: I got the idea for the Valorian Chronicles watching CSI. I love Gil Grissom’s character and wondered what he would be like if he was a vampire. What kinds of cases would he be investigating? Then I thought what if I gave him a crime unit and set them in their own city. What kinds of problems could they have?

The whole series is essentially about Caine Valorian’s crime scene unit. But each book focuses on one team member and the issues they face with their work and their relationships.

AR: BLOOD SECRETS is the first book in your Valorian Chronicles series. What can you tell us about the series and the upcoming installments?

Vivi: So far, there are going to be three books. The second one is called Dark Lies, comes out in October, and will focus on Jace Jericho, the lycan on the OCU. Then the third book will focus on Lyra, the witch that talks to her dead grandmother.

AR: Nocturne is a pretty new line from Silhouette. Aside from the paranormal aspect, what else can readers expect from these books and yours in particular?

Vivi: I think readers can expect fast-paced thrilling reads with the Nocturne line. Mine, for sure, is action packed, eerie, and thrilling.

AR: You write in a lot of different genres for several publishers. Are there any similarities to your books, any themes you find yourself drawn to?

Vivi: I find that every story I write is about redemption. The main character has done something in the past that they feel they need to right, or to pay for. I like my characters to find their redemption at the end.

AR: What made you decide to write action-adventure?

Vivi: I don’t think it was a conscious decision. It’s just the way my stories come out. I love action movies, and books with a ton of movement and action in them. So, it was just a natural progression for me as an author.

AR: Other than the continuation of the Valorian Chronicles series, what's in store from you in the near future?

Vivi: I really want to write for the Shomi line Dorchester is putting out, so I’m hoping something happens there. I’m also working on two separate urban fantasies that I hope to find homes for soon.

AR: What is something about you that readers would be completely surprised to find out?

Vivi: I’m very scheduled. I have a routine every day and if one thing is out of place, I lose my mind and the whole day is ruined.

AR: Who are some of your favorite authors?

Vivi: I love that I’m finding new favorites every time I go to the bookstore. There are a lot of wonderfully talented authors out there.

On my bookshelf you will find, Kim Harrison, Rachel Caine, Anne Bishop, Stephen King, Lillith Saintcrow, Jennifer Armintrout, Gena Showalter…

AR: How do you balance your work and family life/spare time? Do you have any hobbies?

Vivi: I have set times that I write. Usually at night, for 4-5 hours. And one day on the weekend, either a Saturday or a Sunday. The rest of the time is for my daughter. We home school during the day with my niece, and we play lots of games together. But if she needs me when I’m writing, I always stop for her. She’s the most important thing to me.

I wish I had hobbies. I hear of all these cool hobbies, like glass painting, or rock painting, or pottery, and I think I’d love to do that. But between writing and my daughter, I don’t have the time or inclination to do any of that.

AR: Thank you for chatting with us, Vivi! On a final note, is there anything else you'd like to share with Access Romance's readers?

Vivi: Thank you! I love the Access Romance community.

I love to get mail. Don’t be shy. Send me something, anything. Readers can reach me at or through my website http://www.vivianna.net or readers can leave comments on my blog, or they can find me blogging around at Romance by the Blog.
