About the Class
Want to add some bite to your courtroom scene? Add some flesh
to your trial attorney character? Or maybe you're wanting to swim faster with
the sharks on Boston Legal. This 4-week online course covers trials from
their historical roots in medieval combat (trial by battle); the nitty-gritty
of presenting evidence, details of cross-examination, and burdens of proof; the
use of themes in trials, and finally the roller-coaster ride of the trial itself
(including a special segment on "Stupid Pet Lawyer Tricks or How to Manipulate
the Jury 101" plus guest judges' pet peeves on courtroom antics). A "Litigator's
Lexicon" dictionary of legal terms will also be provided.
Class Duration
Four weeks, Mondays and Thursdays, excepting Thanksgiving: November
2, 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 27, 30. (8 classes total).
About the Speakers
Shaun Kaufman has tried over 125 felony jury trials, numerous
misdemeanor trials, as well as courts martial proceedings and civil jury trials
during 17 years law practice. Known as "Breakdance" in the courtroom,
he logged a success rate rare among trial attorneys. No longer a shark, he's now
a legal investigator specializing in forensic, financial, and domestic relations
investigations. His father always told him to be a writer, not a lawyer.
Colleen Collins, whose firm specializes in legal investigations,
is a PI by day, a multi-published author by night. Well-versed in assembling evidence,
locating difficult witnesses, and performing witness preparation and interviews
for a number of successful sharks, she's also written 19 novels for both Harlequin
and Dorchester.
