A few weeks ago, Mr. Munro and I purchased a Wii. We embraced the new gadget, having great fun playing the sports. We did have sore muscles for a few days and grunted and groaned a lot, but we both figured it was good exercise. My favorites are the tennis and boxing. The tennis frustrates the heck out of me at times, but I enjoy it, and I find the boxing very therapeutic after a bad day at work.
It’s winter here in New Zealand. The weather is cold and we’re getting lots of rain. Both Mr. Munro and I decided we should purchase Wii Fit next because it would be good exercise for us. This purchase was a huge success, and consequently a different set of muscles started to hurt. I’m in awe of the people who designed and invented the Wii. It’s amazing, although I didn’t like the host character telling me I was overweight. That part wasn’t fun. I also learned I don’t have very good upper body strength. The personal trainers and I are working on both the weight and the upper body strength. My personal trainer seems to enjoy doing pushups and thinks I should enjoy them too. I don’t. I’m terrible at pushups and find even the cheat ones where I put my knees on the ground are difficult. As I said, I’m working on that and hopefully my fitness will improve over the course of the next few months.
What type of exercise do you do to keep fit? Do you enjoy it or do you struggle through? Can you do pushups?

CONTEST: I have a new print release called TEA FOR TWO coming out from Samhain Publishing in August. Everyone who comments on this post will go into a draw to win a copy of my upcoming contemporary romance. (Note: the winner will receive a pre-order copy so your prize will not arrive until August) I’ll draw the winner on Saturday and announce the winner in the comments section.

I enjoy dancing as exercise… I can deal with sit ups or crunches, but I have no arm strength for push ups… :silly:

I enjoy walking and used to do alot of it along the beach. Unfortunately, due to a recent temporary move which puts me in a car dependent locale, I haven’t done much walking. Looking into the Wii since I have heard so much about it.

I just got a Wii for the same reason to use it to excerise more. I am planning to pick up a Wii Fit next, glad to see you like it.

Dh just purchased a Wii a couple of weeks ago. He has suggested the Wii Fit but I have heard it is hard to do or keep up with(not sure which). Dh loves the tennis and bowling. Will have to look further into the Fit. Thanks for the info.

I used to walk and then we got a Treadmill; you know which one I mean-the one where you can hang clothes on, etc. LOL. It is not folded up in the back room as we are renovating the laundry room.
I so LOVE the cover of your book; awesome.

Now you’ve made me feel guilty. LOL I have the Wii Fit but haven’t gotten around to trying it. I do like the baseball and tennis. And I’m surprisingly good at the golf. It’s surprising because I’m terrible at RL golf.
I enjoy walking and swimming for excercise. And I can do a pushup – just one.

I’m a weakling and not particularly in love with exercise. But I do have wrist weights that I wear while cleaning and reading so I can say I’m somewhat physically active.

Walking is my favorite form of exercise. The nice weather makes is easier to enjoy. I also tone my arms by lifting 3 pound weights.
July 15th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I walk and garden for exercise. Love every minute of it.

Both my daughters have a Wii but don’t live at home. Sometimes they bring it home with them. I really enjoy it but am very obsessive and if I had one of my own I could spend all my time with it (like my computer now lol). I only got to try the get fit one once and I would love to have one but you have to buy the original first. I never could do pushups – no arm strength. One daughter can and the other can’t like me lol.

Colleen – dancing is a fun way to exercise. I’ll often dance around to my iPod. There’s only the little dog here to see so I don’t get rude remarks. Probably lucky that I can’t speak “dog”
July 15th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Mary – hubby and I thought about the Wii for ages. We wish we’d purchased one earlier because it’s so much fun.
Donna – the Wii Fit is great. There are lots of different levels and no matter what your level of fitness it’s fun.
Robyn – if I can manage the Wii Fit, I’m sure you can too. We had sore muscles at first, but you get that no matter what you do!
July 15th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Robyn – the cover is pretty, isn’t it. If you’d like a few bookmark go to my website and check out the new downloadable bookmarks that I have. It’s in the extras – for readers section.
Leslie – you’re missing out on lots of fun and frustration. I’m terrible at some of the balance games and spend most of my time muttering and laughing hysterically. As I said — fun.
July 15th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Jody – I think housework is a much worse way to exercise than the Wii! I need to get working on the washing and vacuuming, but I think I’m going to write instead.
Jane – I really like walking too. Hubby and I try to walk after dinner most nights. At the moment it takes effort because it’s winter here in NZ.
Estella – my hubby enjoys gardening. Me – not so much! I like looking at or eating the results though.
July 15th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Catslady – It can be addictive, but overdoing it hurts. I’ve learnt that to my cost with sore muscles and now pace myself.
July 15th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Hi Shelley,
I’ve heard that the Wii’s are so much fun and addictive
I occasionally do Yoga to try and stay fit, but don’t do it as often as I would like to. And when I do do it I’m not nearly as graceful nor do I reach the zen zone  .
As far as upper body strength I rely upon carting my adorable 2 yr old around.
I would love to win Tea for Two. Congrats on it’s print release!!

Hi, Shelley!
We do have the Wii, but not the Wii Fit. When we first got the Wii, we wiped ourselves out using the Sports games. It was pathetic how we got sore playing “tennis” or “bowling” ;p So these days for exercise, it’s walking the kids to school (although that’s been a big zero since they’re out for the summer–it’s going to be painful when we start up again!) and hauling my “baby” around–he’s almost four, but I’m such a sucker and still spoil him. And I’m still taking ballet classes when the scheduling works out. Huge congrats for the print release of Tea for Two, Shelley! I’ve definitely been reading more e-books, but I still love paper books!

TEA FOR TWO sounds wonderful. Please enter me in the giveaway.Thank you.I enjoy walking and working in my garden for excercise.

Hello Shelly, your new book looks great. I have 3 kids ranging from 10 to 4 stand all day working in a grocery store and clean house. If all of this doesnt count as excercise then I am sorry to say I dont have any more time to fit it in to my schedule. Thanks for the chance to win your new book please throw my name in the hat.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Hi Shelly,
we got a Wii too and tennis is my favorite. I enjoy walking, but the summer is rather rainy and cold here, so it’s great to have some indoor exercise too.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Ha! I have a Wii too, but not wii fit. After doing tennis or bowling for a while, sometimes the next day I’ll wake up and be like DANG!! Where did I exercise? Oh wait, no, I was virtually kickin’ butt at bowling!
July 15th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
:sideways: i try when i have time lol
but i dont when i know i should
congrats ont eh book
July 16th, 2009 at 7:10 am
I try to walk at least a couple of miles a day. When I have time, I like to put on music and dance. Don’t own a Wii but my sons do and they bring them to the house. They are a lot of fun.
July 16th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Your novel looks delightful. Thanks for this lovely giveaway. I do wish that I didn’t have to exercise but I do so I force myself to go to the gym and use weights, equipment and the treadmill. I walk as well which I love. Being outside waith the blue skies and sunshine is always a pleasure.
July 16th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Booklover – thanks. You know I’ve tried yoga, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m very clumsy!
July 16th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Thanks, Fedora. Ballet is meant to be very good for you isn’t it? I never did ballet at school.
Emma – my hubby really loves his gardening.
Sara – you do sound busy, and that sounds like plenty of exercise to me!
July 16th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Eva – it’s winter here and raining a lot so I’m not doing the walking I usually do. I don’t like winter!
Rachie – sore muscles is the worst part, I think. :silly:
July 16th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
kh – it does take effort, that’s for sure!
Sandy – I love playing music. It always makes me want to dance, much to hubby’s dismay.
Ruth – thank you. Gyms are quite good for people watching though. The writer in me loves to people watch.
July 16th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
The cover is very pretty. Good luck with the book; Would love to read it.
As for exercise – the treadmill – try to do it at least 4x a wk – every day if I can sometimes.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:59 am
I’m addicted to excercising! I MUST swim and walk everyday or I feel bad! I love being outdoors! Beautiful flowers! I find it all very calming! I guess it compensates for my sedate hobbies of reading and knitting.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:09 am
I do a little on the treadmill (I am an older lady) and I love to read. So winning books is always wonderful. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

I’m not one of those people that has a membership at a gym and has a whole routine down. I tried it and after a months time, I fall into the category of paying for something that I never use. That’s right I’m a sucker. They reel me in and get my money and then I never go. So I’ve learned my lesson a few times over. Now I like to be active, doing things with the kids, things around the house, go kayking, walking, things of that nature. I realize that doing those types of things really doesn’t focus on the problem areas, like your gut, butt and inner thighs. So just recently I’ve been trying to do crunches, leg lifts and butt squeezes while I’m watching my favorite reality shows. I figure that rather than continue saying I don’t have the time, I’ll combine what I like to do which is watch my shows and during the commercials include what I hate doing which is exercises. So far seems to be working out well.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:10 am
I’d have to say I’m overweight too and have trouble doing pushups…..very boring!!!! I like to walk, listening to my MP3 music as I walk….
July 18th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Pat – thank you! The treadmill is great for reading time as well.
Laurie – I have to do some sort of exercise each day as well. If I don’t get outside for a walk or a bike ride I get a form of cabin fever. It’s horrible.
Rosie – as I said – treadmills and books just go together.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Lynn – I used to belong to a gym, but they’re quite expensive and I need to drive there. These days I have to think about petrol costs too. Anyhow, I think I work better on my own or with hubby prodding me to go for a walk. I agree that the commercial breaks are the perfect time to do crunches etc!
