Autumn Antics!
It’s fall here in Cincy. My fav time of year. I love that first real fall day where you can feel a slight chill in the air and have to grab a sweater. Sweater weather.
But the thing I love most is the food. No wonder I can’t lose any weight. I love making stew and soup and corn bread. And what about those candy apples and candy corn and pumpkins? All that sugar. Bring it on. And as for pumpkins… What about pumpkin pie. I adore pumpkin pie or pecan pie or apple pie from the just picked ones at the orchard up the road. And they have apple cider to die for. Hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick is delish.
And then there’s the decorations. I’m one of those who puts up my pumpkin lights, Halloween flag, pumpkins scattered here and there and mums of every color I can find. Seems they have more each year. I remember when I used to take my kids to the pumpkin farm just up the road too. And we’d pick apples at the orchard and take doughnuts and apple cider to the lake for an outing. Like I said, no wonder I can’t lose any weight.
And I love the fall clothes. Cuddling in a sweater and new jeans is perfect. No more of my icky white legs sticking out of Capri pants. Now they’re covered! Of course there are a bazillion leaves to rake around here and this year I may get a service to help me out but going outside and getting the yard ready for winter is good. Not that I like winter…I hate, hate, hate winter…but I know I’m that much closer to spring.
So, the question today is… What is your favorite fall thing? Food? Decorations? Clothes? Special activity? If you live in one of those no season places come to Cincy and I’ll teach you how to rake leaves and we can sip apple cider around the fire pit.
I’ll give away two copies of I’m Your Santa, an anthology I’m in with Lori Foster and Karen Kelley.
Hugs,
Dianne Castell

I love the cooler weather and the decorations and Hallaween is one of my favorite holidays.

We just recently moved. I’ve been busy painting and trying to get boxes unpacked. I am going to make one of the bedrooms into my special room. I plan on getting a hide-a-bed couch and a desk of sewing for that room. I have a built in desk already in there for my computer. But once I get it the way I want it. I will have all my crafts, my computer and a couch for reading; it will be my own little get away. I won’t have room in there for my books, however I have a library room and that is all that is in there. All 3 walls have shelves from the floor to the ceiling, the forth wall has the door and a closet. I hope some day to be able to fill all the shelves.
My favorite activity’s are reading & crocheting. Now I have a place for all my crafts and books. In any season those will be my favorite 2 rooms to be in.

Well, firstly I love the baseball playoffs — for the rare time that the Mets make it, and rooting for the Yankees to lose. :) But besides that — apple pie (yep, it’s always around, but just feels even better to eat now), pumpkin pie, oh, Thanksgiving, most definitely! :) So, ah, food’s a big thing, certainly. LOL :) But also you can’t argue about the color of the trees turning! :)

I love the cooler weather. It is finally time for me to sit down and knit. It is too hot in the summer to knit a blanket, I end up roasting when it is long enough to hang down my legs. When It finally cools down and fall and winter are here I just like to sit and relax by knitting.

I love Halloween because every year my best friend and her kids come over. We take turns walking around with them while they tick or treat and also hand out candy. I enjoy seeing all the different costumes every year. I also enjoy the changing of the colors!

It’s the food for me, homemade apple pies, with apples picked fresh from the orchard, and pumpkin pies, too. One year we had so many apples from a friend’s orchards, the family had a bake day for everything apple - pies and all sorts of apple cakes, some eaten right away, others frozen there were so many.

Hi, Pam.
I agree about Halloween. Fun time. :-)
Hi, Tammy! Wow, are you busy. Your place sounds wonderful. Terrific ideas and to have a place just for your stuff is the best. Good luck!
Hi, Lois! The fall is a great sports time with baseball and football. But I must admit I like that apple pie best of all.
Hi, Teresa. Kids begging for candy is great. Love seeing their costumes. I need a new spooky sound CD to play. Hope it doesn’t rain for Halloween this year.
Hi, Pam! You are some good cook! Yummmm. I got hungry just reading your message. I got the best recipe for apple butter. Now I need to make some.
Oh, Rebekah! You knit. How neat is that. Homemade things are the best. Where did you learn to knit? Bet you’ve given away many lovely items over the years.

I love the cooler temps and taking long walks. I have been walking about two miles a day for the past month. I just love getting outside and working in the yard. The leave are all changing and everything is so pretty.

I have to say all the gorgeous colors. My first clue is when our flaming bushes start to change colors when the nights get cool. And I’ve already made my first batch of chilli :)
October 13th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I like the cooler temps (except I wish they didn’t drop so fast…), football season, and candy corn!
October 13th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Hi, Dianne! I love fall weather and the foods that work well with cooler weather–split pea soup, chili, apple cider… plus since it’s cooler, it’s nice to bake and warm the house up and then it smells yummy, too! Thanks for the fall fun, Dianne ;)
October 13th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Oops, wanted to say, please don’t enter me–I’ve read I’m Your Santa, and it’s terrific!

Fall is my absolute fav season… First the cooler weather, the changing colors, my b-day, and Halloween!!! I love love love Halloween! The decorations, pumpkin carving, apple cider, the cute costumes, all soooo much fun!

Hi, Quilt Lady.
I need to get walking too. Great idea and in such nice weather.
Hi, Catslady. Yeah, I was thinking about chili this morning! Yumm.
Hi, Jennifer. I wish we could have autumn last longer too. Seems we drop right into winter. Now if we could just skip winter! :-)
Hi, Fedora. I love baking too. Great presents for my kids who don’t have time to bake.
I can give you one of my other books instead of IYS. Thanks for buying it!
Hi, Colleen. The homemade costumes are so neat. Love the imagination that goes into them. When I was a kid that’s all that there was. You made it yourself or your mom did. Nothing bought.
Hugs, Dianne

Well, I like ruska (Finnish for all those lovely colors in trees and bushes) and the fact that there are no more of those little bloodsucking insects everywhere.
October 13th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
The thing I like most about fall? My FAVORITE things are the smells! Be it indoor, with baking or cooking fall dishes/desserts, or the outdoors with the smell of dried leaves in the crisp air! Oh yeah! I love the colors of fall too; oranges, yellows, reds, and browns.
October 13th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Hi, Minna. Ruska is a great term. Kind of says it all. And I agree about the bugs. Right now we have some tiny micro things that are eating everyone. Ick. Can’t wait for the first frost to get rid of them…’couse that will also be the end of all my beautiful flowers. Everything’s a trade off.
Hugs, Dianne

Hi, DeeAnn.
It’s amaizing how every season has a special smell. The hot smell of summer, the new warmth of spring and the smell of snow coming. Falling leaves and sometimes…if I’m lucky…I can smell someone burning leaves. Love it. :-)

Hi Dianne,
I love the food and the decorations. I love shopping for Halloween decorations and candy. I haven’t had cider in so long. This is the time for apple picking, too.
October 13th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
I like the cooler temperatures in the fall. It’s great weather to bake and now I can have some hot chocolate again.
October 13th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Hey Dianne! Fall is without a doubt the favorite time of year for our entire family. We take in as many festivals as we can, visit the apple orchard and hang bunches of sweet annie and bittersweet on the porch. Carving pumpkins with the girls is another favorite!
I hope you’re doing well. I’m also hoping that we can get the “gang” together for lunch sometime soon - it’s been too long since we’ve gotten together!
Take care.
October 13th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Hi, Jane.
Hey, you got to have some cider! Come over. My treat. :-)
Hi, Maureen. Yeah, hot chocolate is great. I float peeps in it. I’m a peep nut! :-)
Hi, Laurie! Wonderful hearing from you. Yeah, we have to get together. I’ve completely lost the summer. Where did it go?? Hope you’re doing well. And your lovely daughters.
Hugs, Dianne

Thanksgiving is my favorite fall thing. I can always count on seeing most of my immediate and extended family. It’s great to visit and see how much the little ones have grown.
October 13th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
I love Thanksgiving too, it’s my fav fall thing, plus the colors of the leaves and decorations.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a copy of I’m your Santa too. ;)
October 13th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
My fav fall thing is Thanksgiving which by the way is today; Pumpkin Pie, turkey, dressing/stuffing, etc. The leaves are turning colors and falling and the air is so fresh. I love it.
October 13th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Hi, Stacie. I love Thanksgiving too. Wonderful to get everyone together.
Hi Dina. They have such wonderful decorations these days. Love to shop for them. The only trouble is storing all the decorations I buy for all the seasons. Yikes!
Hi Robyn. The trees changing colors remind me of stuffing. All the same colors .
I don’t think we’ll have a very colorful fall in cincy. Way too dry this year.
Hugs, Dianne

I love the food. All the Holiday food, not to mention the candy and chocolates
I also love the clothes, and the special “magic” you can feel in the air that begins with the fall and stays until after Christmas time.
October 14th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Hi, Margie. I love the apple picking too. Great apple pies. Just made on Sunday for when the kids came over for dinner.
Hi Tami. I love candy corn. Not the chocolate ones, just the yellow.
Hi, Pat. A new grandbaby!!! I am so jealous. The way my kids are going I’ll never have grandkids! Enjoy!
Hi, Tami. The holdays can be so stressful. I hope things work out for you. Hope they all behave.
Hi, Juliet. Yeah, there is magic in the air, esp if there are kids involved. All the world’s magic for them.
Hugs, dianne

Hi, Pat. Good luck with the new babe.

I’m getting the books out tomorrow. I made it through NY okay. I swore I’d never drive Manhatten and I drove from Harlem to Chinatown. I think God has a great sense of humor making us do things we never thought we would.
