Yesterday, I played hooky. Just a little. At one point, I stopped doing day-job things so that I could finish Joe Hill’s Heart-Shaped Box. At another point in my life, this would have been the book that I stayed up all night to finish reading. (Now with two young kids, that just ain’t too practical.) I loved, loved, loved this book — it sucked me in with its writing, its characters, its holy-s*** scary bad guy. Terrific horror novel.

I’m sure there are many other books out there that have caused us to lose more than a little sleep, thanks to us choosing to read instead of snooze. So tell me: what’s the last all-night book you’ve read?

(And now, an emoticon from my Precious Little Tax Deduction, The Elder, who just woke up — see what I mean about me not able to stay up all night anymore?)

The last book that caused me to have an all nighter was the current book that I’m writing. Other than that I haven’t stayed up all night since SEP’s Natural Born Charmer.

  2. Gail Barrett Says:

I haven’t had an all-nighter in a while, but my husband just stayed up for several nights to read The Count of Monte Cristo. Now I’m reading it, so I might get to that point soon…

I’m easy (and my kidlets are much older  so I have more leeway). The Road to Hell kept me up. Suzanne Brockmann’s Into the Fire. Nalini Singh’s Hostage to Pleasure (me + ARC = happy). Nora Roberts’ Tribute… There have been a few in the past month or so, yes.

I loved Heart Shaped Box too! Great book. I think the last book that kept me up all night reading would have to be Countdown by Michelle Maddox. Very exciting and I loved that book. And I must say Jackie, YOUR books are stay up all night readers too!!!

  5. Jennifer K. Says:

I think Harry Potter 7 was the last all-night book I’ve read. I have to be up for work so early that I often have to force myself to put books down.

Oh I get pulled into those all night readers too much! Last one was a historical of Jillian Hunter THE LOVE AFFAIR OF AN ENGLISH LORD. Historical romance do that to me! I did that with her first book too like the week before with another book of hers because I was introduced to her books in a chat and I’m now hooked!
