I had one of those family moments the other day when I was desperate to show a younger relative a photo of her paternal grandmother. How desolate was I when I couldn’t find the picture I was looking for- and it got me to thinking about all the treasures that get mislaid over the years-

Have you lost something that means a lot to you- and if so, what?

Share your thoughts with us and I’ll try to console you with a prize for our winner, picked out at random

Happy chatting, everyone,

Oh, and here’s a delicious sheikh- Just because you deserve him!

Hugs around the world,

Susanxx

Gee..I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve lost so many things during the many moves in my life. One thing I really miss is an ankle bracelet that my best friend and I bought for graduation. We both bought the same one and somehow I misplaced it. Also, my class ring. And a beautiful necklace a friend I’ve had since childhood bought me for my 18th birthday. I don’t have much luck with jewelry :)

When I was a child, my much older brother bought me a really nice birthstone ring and told me that when I was older and more responsible I could wear it. My Mom put it in her jewelry box and it disappeared before I ever got to wear it. My Mom and I never knew what happened to it. I think about that ring from time to time and wish I could have gotten to wear it.

Jewelry seems to be the theme - a gold necklace from my husband lost on vacation (I think it was taken from myroom), 2 diamond earrings - of course different ones that don’t match and they were my MIL’s who has passed and nicer than what I own lol, and last but not least, my stone out of my wedding ring of 25 years while raking leaves. My husband was generous on this loss and I did get another ring (but still I miss my original one for sentimental value).

I lost a Black Onyx ring that I loved and treasured. It was oval but very pointed at each end and was the fashion in the 60’s. How I lost it is that I was doing my makeup for my cousin’s wedding and I put the ring on the toilet tank. Upon reaching for my make up it fell in the toilet bowl as it was flushing. I stood in horror as it disappeared.

I lost a beautiful bracelet my mother gave to me. Even though it was 20 years ago I’m still heartbroken when I think about it.

Is it possible that the sheik himself be the prize?

    I lost my class ring.

I lost a beautiful watch that my MIL gave me when I was married. I feel badly about it and hardly got to wear it at all.

  8. Susan Stephens Says:

Susan, I’m loving your suggestion- there should be some consolation for all these precious things! Bring on the sheikhs- we’ll have one each, please

And apart from all these special items, what is it about socks and teaspoons ???
I have a whole drawer full of odd socks and a handful of tatty old spoons in the drawer that no one wants to use

Actually, that’s not quite true, as I bought another 6 teaspoons today- How long will they last, I wonder :?:

    Back tomorrow with our winner

    Sxx

I lost a gold cross that was my grandmother’s when I moved to my husband’s home. Somehow during the move it was lost. I was devastated because it was one of the few things I had of hers to remember her by.

  10. Nathalie Says:

It goes in the same line… my mom lost all her pictures during the war, so I was never able to see how she looked before she was 18 and all my family used to say I looked like my mom, but I was never able to verify it.

  11. Linda F Says:

When I was very young, I lost a gold chain and cross that my grandmother had given me. I am still heartbroken over having lost it.

I lost my husband suddenly last June. It has taken courage, strength and I have managed to realize that since life is so short and fleeting one has to make the most of it and enjoy it while we can.

  13. Dina Says:

Many years ago, I had all of my family pics stored away in Uhal sotrage and it got ruined and lost. I miss many of those pics of my family long gone.

  14. Melis L. Says:

Oh, my your Sheikh is might fine, Susan! Great cover! He is a very nice consolation!

Oh, gosh, I have lost many earrings over the years but I think the thing that I most treasured that I lost in 1990 was my dad. He was my rock, my world, and a fantastic father! He was soft spoken, very strict with us kids but played games with us and made us feel very loved. He was not an emotional person but we all knew he loved us. Well, I shouldn’t say he wasn’t emotional because he did cry on the day I was married. I even said to him before I walked down the stairs to not cry because your going to make me cry. Well, he did anyway. I love you dad!

It’s so good to hear from you all and I’m glad this prize is going to be picked out at random, because I couldn’t possibly choose a winner

Back later with the news of our winner

There are so many ‘Yikes’ moments here as well as some moving accounts that I know we all share warm thoughts with those of you who have lost something precious.

I have had to resort to writing the numbers on pieces of papers, scrunching them up and throwing them in the air and the one I picked out was… 10#

So congratulations, Nathalie! Would you send your details to Lee, please at: lee@susanstephens.net and I know Lee will send out your prize just as soon as she can.

Thank you to everyone for taking part.

    See you next month.

    Susanxx

  17. Karen Says:

The most treasured thing that up until 2 months ago, I thought that I had lost!!
My dearly missed dad, who passed away 3 years ago, was given by his brother, a wooden bound book of pressed wild flowers from Palestine. My uncle had spent part of his war time service there, and had brought this incredible book back with him. The last time our family had seen this book, was when I did a school project on it, must be over 20 years ago. Dad always said that he couldn’t find it, and he thought that I had lost it!! I have only recently cleared dad’s clothes closet, (mum couldn’t face doing it).
And what do you think I found?? Yes, you’ve guessed it! Our little wooden book of wild flowers. I know its only a small thing, but I just wish that Dad knew we found it.
    xx Karen

I too have lost many things in the past from moves or misplacement… But the thing that I most regret losing are a pair of earrings my grandmother gave me from her own jewelry box. The memory brings back both happiness and pain! I miss her and knowing I lost those earrings makes me feel like I lost a part of her!

During one of my many moves several years ago, I somehow lost one of the boxes I had packed. Sadly, it was the box containing all the photos of my parents and grandparents including their wedding pictures. They have all passed away and so many times I wish I still had those wonderful photos, but, at least I have other more recent pictures and many, many great memories.
