About our Contests and Giveaways

Spring in my step

Susan Stephens

Spring means it has to be time to start thinking about RWA San Francisco in July.
I just can’t believe how time has flown!

I have to stop myself packing my suitcase- especially when the snow keeps on tumbling down here on the Wuthering Heights of Yorkshire UK.

I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to that West coast sunshine
And I want to meet as many of you as I can.
So…

If you can make it to San Francisco do come and see me at the literacy signing on the Wednesday evening- I’m going to be mentioning this each month until we land!

Plus, if you are a member of my Birthday Babies club and wear your button, I’ll be giving away a special little something to all my Birthday Babies on that night.

If you’re not already a member of the B’Day Babies Club just contact lee@susanstephens.net to join.

Lee is running a special promo on Birthday Babies up to the end of June on my web site, so do enter the contest, and let Lee know if you will be attending RWA.

And now for our own special contest question for today- What’s the first sign of spring for you?
Or,
What does spring mean to you- first kiss, first lamb, spring cleaning, maybe?

And if you would like one of my spectacular new bookmarks, just mail Lee with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Looking forward so much to hearing your ideas!

  1. Hi Susan, I wish that I could go to San Francisco and see you. Spring to me is pretty flowers and warmer weather.

  2. I’m not going to RWA this year, maybe next. I’ll miss seeing so many wonderful authors. Enjoy yourself.

Spring to me is new green grass, tulips and sunshine. Of course, I wish it meant warmer weather, but since it’s still only 50 degrees here on the East Coast I’m depressed. I want it to be warmer!!!!!

  3. Enjoy your wonderful S.F. trip. Spring is sunshine, warmth, flowers and light soft breezes.

  4. Spring to me is warmer days, the trees getting new leaves, new green grass and the flowers growing.

  5. Hello, everyone!

Thank goodness we can meet here any time of the year- of course it’s fantastic to meet you in person, but this really is the next best thing, and I really value the opportunity to chat with you.

It seems like I’m not the only one still bundled up in my warmest clothes! Here’s hoping for some warmer weather really soon- unless you live in Australia where you could probably do with some of our snow and rain! We had hail stones yesterday and they really sting when you’re dog-walking out on the moors

    Back soon!

  6. To me spring is seeing the first signs of green show up. I love looking in my yard and seeing if it is any more green than it was the day before. Which can be kinda of hard since it decided to snow off and on all day yesterday. You never know what your going to get in Colorado.

  7. For me, spring means baseball season again!!!! :) And another year of hoping that it’ll be a NY Mets year, but deep down inside, know better. LOL Just as long as it’s not another Yankee year. ;)

  8. Back East it was the robins flying around… In Arizona, it is opening the windows to breezy warm air!!!

  9. Spring is when the day is longer and there is more sunlight. I love seeing the trees and flowers starting to bloom.

  10. Hi Susan,

San Francisco is on the opposite coast from me and since I don’t travel I’m not going to get to meet you in person. I hope you have a wonderful time!

Spring is flowers popping up, green grass, trees getting buds, bears coming out of hibernation and Humming Birds returning.

  11. West coast sunshine? I’m sorry to say you might not get much. SF is significantly cooler than the rest of the state, usually a good 10 degrees cooler than even right across the bay. Fog in the evenings can make it downright cold sometimes.

But I’ll be there. :) Maybe I’ll see ya.

  12. Spring to me is the return of the songbirds.

by Estella on April 8th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

  13. For me too, it’s the first robin. Green pops up early sometimes and we still get snow but it’s only been a few rare times that I’ve seen snow after my first robin.

  14. Spring in MN is the first day it gets into the 50s with a sunny sky and light breeze . All the neighbors rediscovery the outdoors - many in shorts - and catch up on all the news. Reality is when we then get 6″ of snow the next day and summer arrives 2 months later…..

  15. Great to see so many ‘old’ friends here as well as new.

Hope I see a little sunshine when I come to SF!! Though, to be honest, I didn’t see too much sunshine even when RWA was in Dallas because I was inside the hotel enjoying the conference activities and meeting as many people as I could - air-conditioning kept me close to freezing most of the time.

It’s bed-time now here in the UK but I’ll leave picking our winner until tomorrow to give as many people as possible chance to join in.

Great reading the posts- I’m still waiting to see that robin- we had heavy grey skies and sleet today on the Yorkshire moors.

  16. Spring means so much to me. The lovely, soothing warmth of the sunshine, the blue skies and the prelude to a wonderful summer spent outside in the garden. The sounds of summer and spring are meaningful and bring back my fondest memories of time spent with friends either travelling or at each other’s homes.

  17. Sunshine, fresh flowers, green grass ect. I just love spring. I go out for walks work in the yard and the tempts are perfect.

by Virginia H. on April 8th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

  18. I think Spring when I see the garden start to come alive and I feel warm again.

by Maureen on April 8th, 2008 at 6:51 pm

  19. Daffodils, crocuses, and hyacinths popping up - and the sweet smell of fresh cut grass! Spring is the greatest time of the year for me cause it means I can get my hands dirty playing in the veggie garden planting my peas (which I’ve already done!) and other cool crops. I feel alive and one with nature. Open a window - breath it in.

  20. The first sign of spring to me is the flowers and the feeling of warmth. So far in the northeast, we have not had too much of this.

by Linda F on April 8th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

  21. Awe, so sad I’m missing out on all these conferences… the first sign of spring to me is sunshine and WARMTH. Also the birds coming back. Budding trees and flowers, and in undergrad, DUCKLINGS! :D I love spring.
    I just don’t love allergies.

by limecello on April 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm

  22. The first signs of spring for me are when the leaves start to turn green and the smell of grass when you first mow.

by Kimmy on April 8th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

  23. I love the flowers! Unfortunately, Spring also brings me a negative experience as well since I suffer from seasonal allergies. The minute those beautiful flowers start blooming I am miserable.

by Cherie J on April 8th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

  24. I have sympathy with so many of you allergy sufferers- for my family the first mowing is a time for red eyes, sneezing and constant sniffles. Hang in there!

I’ll post as many photos on my blog over at www.susanstephens.net as I can after conference so that those of you who won’t be attending will still get an insight into what went on.

I’ve really loved reading all your posts, but DeeAnn, you created such strong images in my head I could practically smell the good earth as you start planting your peas. Good luck with the veggie garden! You must live in a beautiful place.

And congratulations, DeeAnn, because you are this month’s winner.

Could you please contact lee@susanstephens.net with your snail mail details- and if you could head your mail - Susan Stephens AR contest that would be a real help to Lee.

Thank you all so much for taking part.
See you next month. Stay safe and well until we meet again,
With my very best to you from the UK
