I don’t know about you, but I, for one, am sick to death of winter.

Seriously.

Here in Cincinnati we got umpteen inches of snow the other night. See the lovely pictures I took? See the deer near my house? Aren’t they beautiful? Isn’t this a stunning winter wonderland?

Not.

It’s March, people. How much more winter should we have to take? Would a little sunshine be too much to ask for? We just set the clocks forward, for crying out loud! Isn’t that a sign of spring?

And is it me, or is winter getting worse? Colder, darker, longer … or maybe my aging body just can’t adjust to winter like it cold in the old days.Whatever it is, I’d like a little warmth and light. Soon.

What about you? Are you sick of winter? Which part of winter are you sickest of? What are you most looking forward to about spring?

Please submit your comments. I’m giving away a copy of Sweeter Than Revenge (which, BTW, opens with a sunny poolside scene) to someone at the end of the day. And please don’t forget to check back and see if you’ve won and need to claim your prize.

Here in So. Maryland, we haven’t had much of a winter. Sure it’s been cold, but no snow. Our winters are getting lighter and lighter every year. My kids don’t really know what snow is, they get an inch (maybe) a year to play in. I don’t envy you, because I don’t like being cold or snow.

Normally, I would say that I can’t wait for my flowers to start blooming, but that’s already happening. I could mention spring break, but that’s next week. So the part that I’m looking forward to the most is sandles.

  2. Rebekah Says:

I can’t wait for a little bit of warmer weather. It has been a long year with the kids being stuck in the house for most of it. They tend to get cabin fever and fight all of the time. I can’t wait until I can send them outside every day and let them burn off all of that energy. But of course I will soon get my wish for warm weather and then start complaining that it is too hot and I want winter again.

  3. Teresa W. Says:

I’m also sick of winter, mainly all the snow! I live in Toledo, Ohio and was also hit by the latest snowstorm. Looking forward to some sun in the fun!

  4. Jennifer K. Says:

I’m sick of winter, but we’re starting to see signs of spring in the Pacific Northwest. Most of the snow that was on the ground thru most of the last 4 months is finally gone! The worst part of winter for me are the road conditions and the extra long commute. And I am so ready for the warmer weather and blooming flowers.

  5. RobynL Says:

I dislike the ‘on again, off again’ weather we have b een having. One day it is beautiful temperatures and then you wake up and the temp. are low, even minus and it stays this way for a few days; then it is nice again. LOL. Give me a break.
I am looking forward to the birds chirping, the green buds of the trees showing and the blades of grass turning green and the sound of the brook.

  6. Byrdloves2read Says:

We’ve had a mild winter and the daffodils are in full bloom here (Chattanooga, TN). Time and again, we’ve watched the snow go north and south, skipping our little corner of the world. The mosquitoes, fleas and ticks are going to be murder this summer.

  7. Fedora Says:

Hi, Ann, I know we need the rain, but that’s what I dislike most about winter–especially when it’s cold and wet. I’m totally spoiled, and I love the fresh sunny days when spring’s starting up…

  8. azteclady Says:

I’m in central Florida *ducking rotting veggies* so I can’t say we’ve had that bad a time of it this year. Then again, who knows how the hurricane season will turn out now?

Hope the bad weather passes soonest for all of you frozen under the snow!

  9. Lisa F. Says:

In middle Georgia, we haven’t had it too bad. The worse part is the constant shift in temps. We had spring weather for a couple of days, then rain, then cold, then spring… You get the picture. I hope you thaw out soon!

  10. Estella Says:

I live where we get very little snow, but a lot of rain.
I am so ready to get outside and work in my yard.

  11. Jane Says:

I’m ready for spring. This has been a weird winter. One day it’s 60 and the next day it’s only 30.

  12. Virginia H. Says:

I am sick of winter, the cold weather, the snow, ice, and rain. I live in KY and we just had a big snow, most of it has melted now. I just don’t like having to get out and drive on the slick roads. We have had a lot of ice this year. It seem like the winter has been worse this year and lasting longer. I am looking forward to spring so I can get out and take walks. I love to do that in the spring, and lets not forget those spring flowers.

  13. Susan Says:

I’m so sick of winter! I can’t wait for the cold temperatures to go away. I’m most looking forward to fresh vegetables and the fragrance of blooming flowers.

  14. limecello Says:

    LOL - Hi Ann -
If you’re putting a hit on winter - count me in! I never want it to snow other than 2 week period centered around Christmas, specifically with a white Christmas. After that, I’m done. Unfortunately, I live in NE OH and we got 20+” of snow. It’s enough to make a girl cry. Count me out of the drawing - I already have your book

  15. Cathy M Says:

I am in California, so we’ve been lucky with our moderate weather. We even have spring bulbs coming up already, though they maybe in for a shock when the usual rains kick in in a couple of weeks. Just read the excerpt over on your website, and warmed right up.

  16. Maureen Says:

I am sick of the cold and I am really sick of the crazy price of oil to heat our house in the cold.

  17. Linda F Says:

Yes, Ann, I am sick of winter. I am tired of the cold weather! I am so looking forward to warm weather.

  18. catslady Says:

I’m sick of having to worry because I have a daughter who lives 5 hours away and has been making trips home for wedding plans and then my other daughter 21) stays out ’til 2 and 3 in the morning and I cannot sleep until she is home. Weather changes so fast (especially the freezing stuff) and it’s never good early in the morning since the snow plows and salt trucks aren’t usually out yet. And we’re expecting snow tonight (sigh).

  19. Ann Christopher Says:

I didn’t *think* I was alone in hating winter and wanting it gone. Thanks for the kind comments. Thanks also to limecello for picking up STR and Cathy M. for checking out the excerpt.

I’ve randomly chosen Fedora to win the copy of STR. Yay, Fedora! Please e-mail your address to me at ann at ann christopher.com (no spaces)

Here’s hoping it’ll be nice and warm when I see you all next time in April …

  20. azteclady Says:

    Congrats, Fedora!

    And thank you, Ann

  21. Pat L. Says:

Yes, I am sick of winter - always am. LOL. I hate the cold the most of course. Long to have to wear no coat and to put on the sandals. We have been very lucky and have had a very mild winter - hardly any snow and only a few cold days. Hope I am not jinxing myself.

    Always look forward to spring!

    Have a great day everyone.

  22. Gail Barrett Says:

Oh, nice photo of the deer. I love deer. I know they eat the plants and carry ticks, etc., but there is something so soothing about seeing wildlife. We buy apples from a local orchard and take them to the woods during the winter to feed the deer. (Fortunately, it’s a no-hunting area.)

I’ve ready for spring, even though here in Maryland, we haven’t had much of a winter this year (as Patty L. said). I saw geese the other day, more robins are arriving in our yard, and our bulbs are starting to come up…. so spring is coming!!!

  23. tami Says:

i hate hate hate cold weather! and i know i dont get the cold most of yall get, here in the south,it never below 0 and such, but 12 ,33, 40 is freakign coldddddddddd
    give me srping or autumn!

  24. Bree Says:

I live in the ski resort town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Even the locals are ready for winter to be over. We’ve had 438 inches of snow this season (so far - with another 12-24 inches expected today). How would you feel if you had 36.5 feet of snow piled up so high you a) can’t see out of your home/work windows, or b) have to remember there’s a stop sign at every street corner because snow is so high it covers the street signs up. We’re getting dangerously close to topping our all time record of 447 inches. And to make matters worse, I deliberately/stupidly moved here five years ago from sunny coastal Mississippi.

When the groundhog disappoints everyone else by declaring 6 more weeks of winter, we all sigh and wish it were ONLY 6 more weeks. I’m looking forward to spring. It should start showing up after June… sigh.

  25. Kristal L. Rosebrook Says:

I am also ready for spring. I’m starting to see all of my spring bulbs pop up, and I know that spring is nearly here. It’s exciting to see the flowers begin to take rise!
