I’ve started Chinese brush painting and watercolor painting and I’ve discovered that there are many sides to creativity. First, I’ve written now since I was a teenager. I’ve done poetry and decoupaged it. But other than the writing, nothing has given me as great a pleasure as the painting has. The point is, I’m not the artist in my family. My sister is, so it was quite an eye-opener to me that I could do this and, to my great delight, do it well. The writing is very fulfilling, but I’m a very visual person. I love color—in clothes, in decorations, in art. I just love looking at color. Truthfully, who didn’t love the 104 count box of crayons. All those choices. Painting watercolor has, I think, made me more creative. I feel as if I’ve found the other half of my whole. How about you? Is there something you’ve always wanted to do and haven’t done it? Has this piece inspired you to try it? Let me hear from you. I’ll give away one copy of my backlist to one poster by 5:00 Sunday night.

I envy anyone who can paint. I love the concept, but have no talent for it. LOL I love to paint walls and interior design. I have a wonderful eye for it and enjoy it. I also love writing and I feel that I have the talent for that also.

I love watercolors but haven’t gotten to do anything in a long time. That and silk painting. I’ve also always wanted to learn how to crochet - maybe I’ll make a friend teach me ..

I want to try painting or even colored pencils. I sketch alot but have never gone to color. I would love to bring color to my artwork. I have also started knitting and sewing my own clothing. I will try anything that has to do with crafts. I think doing crafty things is a great escape.

Making a scrapbook is something that I always wanted to do but I never can find the time. Maybe after the kids grow up and go off to college I will find the time

You’ve got to try watercolor. It’s so much fun. I love it so much. I really love the process of choosing a subject, picking the paints, and finishing my painting. It’s so great. Give it a try!

Hi Karen,
I’ve wanted to learn to quilt for some time so I have just started and, of course, I started with a book and I’ll see how good I am at it.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play an instrument, maybe the piano, violin or cello. I wish I took lesson as a kid, but I guess it’s never too late.

I have done what I always wanted to try. I taught myself counted cross stitch and have since completed over 100 pieces.

Hi, Karen! Painting seems so lovely! My MiL is a painter, and I think if I asked nicely, she’d be happy to try to teach me basic technique, but it does seem so intimidating! I guess what I’d like to take the time to learn is how to knit well–I can do the very basic knit and purl, but actually making something seems like such an art! (Limecello, I’ve got the crochet basics down–if you’re nearby geographically, I’d be happy to try to share the skill :))

I am not an artist, I wish I was. I do some quilting and I had always wanted to do a Lone Star Quilt. So I got me a book and went to work on it. It turned out beautiful. After that I did a broken star quilt, very difficult but it came out pretty good. I think a person can do about anything they want it they set their head to do it.

I have wanted to learn how to crochet(I knit) but haven’t had the nerve yet.
I so wished I was a painter-can’t even draw a cat properly.

Oh geez, I have no talent for any of that! LOL While I still have no talent for it, I do try to do simple holiday stuff with construction paper and the like — directions from websites for kids — but sometimes, even with that, alas, I stink.
Just no creative genes here whatsoever. But I do have my box of crayons. At least I can pick up one of those and use them.
Lois. . . who really is 31. . but who says a 31 year old can’t have a box of crayons?

I don’t think I have an artisitc bone in my body. Even when I try they come out as stick figures. I’ve always wanted to do a lot of things: play the piano, paint, crochet, sew, ski.

Karen, this has really been on my mind lately. I really want to try something creative that isn’t writing, but am afraid it will be so fun and absorbing that it’ll eat up the valuable time. I LOVE all the many hues of colour as well — the more in a set of crayons or pencils, the more I crave them! Bron

New crayons was always my favorite gift and I carried that on to my two girls. I did have some artistic creativity when I was young but was told “you have to get a real job” but now my youngest is even better at it and is going to college to study art. I’ve taught myself to knit, crochet, embroider, and needlepoint in the past but I must admit once the computer came along I’ve put a lot of that to the side. I did buy some scrapbooking supplies so I’m hoping to get into that.

I loved receiving stationery and note paper. This was a wonderful gift which I treasured. I wrote letters and enjoyed that so much. As far as drawing and artistic endeavors I had no talent at all. I envy anyone who can cook, paint and be creative.

O.k. Karen you have mentioned a subject that is near and dear to my heart! I love anything creative! Painting, watercolors, scrapbooking, making cards, needle crafts, etc. I love it all! I work at an art supply store and absolutely love it! It is just like heaven! I am able to wallow in the paint aisle and gaze longingly at all the colors just thinking about all the things I can create with them. Oooo….and papers, markers, pens, galore! Oh, I always have to buy one when they come in. Absolutely heaven!
