New Book Trailer
From what I hear, the jury is still out about book trailers. “Why make a trailer?” people have asked me. Here are my answers:
1. Because it’s fun. At least, it is for me. I like finding the right music, selecting the images, writing the script. I get a kick out of it — and it can be the perfect break when I need to stop writing for a bit.
2. Because it tells people more about the book. I don’t get a lot of say in back-cover copy (I certainly don’t write it), and I get basically no say in the cover (although sometimes I’ll be asked for my thoughts on what should go on the cover). I control the book trailer. And I think that combined with an excerpt and book blurbs, it might help tip the scales for a browser who isn’t sure whether or not to take a chance on the book.
3. Because booksellers are starting to play book trailers. Seriously–how cool is that? It’s like I’ve made a music video that people can actually watch in public! Booksellers that have begun playing book trailers include Borders, B&N, Powells, and Amazon.
Here’s my newest book trailer, for HOTTER THAN HELL. It will be live on my website in a few days; for now, you can check it out on my Amazon blog, or on MySpace.
