New Book Trailer

Jackie Kessler

From what I hear, the jury is still out about book trailers. “Why make a trailer?” people have asked me. Here are my answers:

1. Because it’s fun. At least, it is for me. I like finding the right music, selecting the images, writing the script. I get a kick out of it — and it can be the perfect break when I need to stop writing for a bit.

2. Because it tells people more about the book. I don’t get a lot of say in back-cover copy (I certainly don’t write it), and I get basically no say in the cover (although sometimes I’ll be asked for my thoughts on what should go on the cover). I control the book trailer. And I think that combined with an excerpt and book blurbs, it might help tip the scales for a browser who isn’t sure whether or not to take a chance on the book.

3. Because booksellers are starting to play book trailers. Seriously–how cool is that? It’s like I’ve made a music video that people can actually watch in public! Booksellers that have begun playing book trailers include Borders, B&N, Powells, and Amazon.

Here’s my newest book trailer, for HOTTER THAN HELL. It will be live on my website in a few days; for now, you can check it out on my Amazon blog, or on MySpace.

What do you think?

  2. Great trailer. I loved the images that you picked. I agree with Jill the trailer is better than the cover and that is saying something. I hope you sales are huge.

  4. Hi Jackie,
I have to say, I’m not the biggest fan of trailers. Generally they don’t say much, and I’ve seen too many that weren’t so great, so I generally avoid them now. However, I really liked your. (I will admit, at times the music made me chuckle - the guitar…) I think your trailer was very well done. Also - I like the cover, but I’m going to agree with Jill - the trailer was even better!

  5. oh this trailer was great! With some, like this one, I get the feel what the book is all about, pulling out those themes of your book that give the intense parts of the story. I always check them out for fun. Most have been those I love to read like yours and seeing whats coming up. I think because I’m out t here checking them out, I don’t find too many new ones… yet. I think your pics were great… but too unique!
