Next Tuesday (26th) is the official release date for my newest book, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW, but I’m hearing rumblings that copies are shipping. Wahoo!
This seems like a good time to tell you a bit about the book. The basic premise goes like this: can two people who lie for a living figure out how to tell each how they really feel about each other? The book starts with a break-up. A bad break-up. Not our hero Reed’s finest moment. Here’s a taste of Gabby’s anger the next day as Reed tries to win her back.
Excerpt:
Reed’s hand froze right over her hair. “Am I missing something?”
“A lot.”
“Care to clue me in?”
The sting of disappointment hit Gabby with the force of a thousand bees. “You’re unbelievable.”
He dropped his hand. “That’s definitely not a compliment.”
“I mean the sick, twisted macho kind of unbelievable.”
“I should sit down for this.” He pulled out the conference room chair to his side and plunked his impressive butt right down. “You were saying something about me twisting you.”
“It’s obvious.”
All traces of his smile disappeared. “Not really.”
“You are one of those.”
“Those being?”
“Oh, you know.” She waved her hand, dismissing his attempts at being obtuse.
“Not yet.”
“You are the kind of guy who wants a woman once it is clear you can’t have her.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
“Reasoned that out, did you?”
She sat down perpendicular to him at the head of the table. Only their knees separated them, so she shoved her chair back just far enough to be outside of touching range. The extra distance was not necessary. He did not come closer. Instead, he stretched back and threaded his lean fingers together across his stomach. He looked far too comfortable for a man who should be on his knees begging and pleading before getting thrown out of the building on his butt.
The lying little weasel.
She tapped her fingernails against the glass top. “Look at you just sitting there.”
“You want me to stand?”
She snorted for what she figured was only the third time in her entire life. “Spare me.”
“From sitting?”
“From the crap.”
“Maybe I’m sitting because this seducing thing is hard work.”
“Imagine how hard it would have been if you were any good at it.”
A wide grin broke across Reed’s lips. “You are determined to make this apology as hard as possible.”
