2007 was a pretty good year as far as my career went. My first Nocturnes came out and the first Alluring Tales anthology. I’m proud of them all and am looking forward to the release of more in 2008.
As far as reading went, I faired just as well. I discovered a ton of new to me authors, some of them debut authors with more books coming out. I really dived into the urban fantasy genre and found I LOVE IT. I can’t get enough. Here are some authors I discovered in 2007:
Jeaniene Frost - Halfway to the Grave is one of my favorite books of the year
Mark Del Franco
Rob Thurman
Vicki Pettersson
Rachel Vincent
Simon Green
Holly Black
Rachel Caine (her YA series, I already loved her Weather Warden series)
I can’t wait for more books from these authors. And I’m looking forward to more urban fantasy tales from other authors.
I’d love to see more grit and edge to the stories. I’d love to see more flawed protaganists. It doesn’t bother me to not like the her/him right off the bat. I don’t mind if they walk a fine line between right and wrong. I’d love to see different mythologies used to world build. And I’d love to see different beings as protaganists…I like me some werewolves and vamps and whatnot, but I’d love to see something really different.
What would you like to see in 2008? More paranormal? Less? The new revolution of the historical?

Historicals and paranormals/fantasy are both favorites for me, so I want to see more of each, even cross-genres, and more time travels. For historicals, more medievals and gothic tones. I do like the some darker and grittier, but also lighter historicals, a mix to suit all moods.
I, too, liked Jeaniene Frost’s debut book, and have Stray in the TBR. One other debut author I loved was C.L. Wilson’s epic fantasy series - Lord of the Fading Lands and Lady of Light and Shadows, the story to be completed in two more books later this fall. Like to see more like this (Evelyn Vaughan’s was another similar series I loved).

I had never given up on historicals. I’m very stubborn and I’d be darned if someone was going to tell me they were “out of style.” lol. But I do read a variety of genres.

I am really digging the new paranormal craze! I would love to see more paranormal/romance/comedy books. I love a mystery though. So to throw that in the mix would be fantastic!

I can’t wait for Karen Monings next book Faefever. I LOVE Historicals and also can’t wait for Bertrice Small’s next Border Chronicle book and the next one in the Hetar series. They won’t come soon enough for me. A few other authors with books I’m looking forward to are;Christine Feehan [Drake sisters], Janet Chapman, Savannah Russe, and Brenda Novak’s trilogy this summer.

I love historicals, so I’m always glad for those, but I don’t mind a little mixing with paranormal. I just hate to see so much of the same thing. I know vamps are popular, but right now, I am done with them. I think I overindulged in ‘07.
And more straight up contemporary romance, ala Nora Roberts, would also be a treat.

I’d like to see more Comedic Paranormals.
I just read Enchanting the Lady by Kathryne Kennedy,it is a refreshing read, it a paranormal with a historical twist. The hero is a were-lion and the heroine is a slightly flawed duchy.

I’m relatively new to historicals and have just started reading a couple paranormals (being a huge scaredy-cat, I’m avoided most of them until recently) so it’s all still pretty new to me. I do really enjoy light-hearted romance and some humor mixed into any of the books I read is always welcome. And like Stacy, I also like the unadorned contemporary romances!

I do like paranormals, but I’m a huge fan of historicals. At times I miss the character development and story lines, the grandeur… anyway, I guess I’m just a fan of quality writing, regardless of genre.
