It’s a good thing I have to blog today. Since I’ve taken so much time away from the computer over the holidays I feared I’d forgotten how to write. Blogging should be an easy way to get the feet wet, right?
But even without the blog assignment, the New Year draws me back to the keyboard. This is the time of year for resolution making, and if you’ve followed my contributions to AR over the last couple of years, you might remember I’m a diehard organizer, a Virgo through and through. So the New Year appeals to me, tantalizing me with the idea of a clean slate and an opportunity to mold the upcoming year into the perfect form.
Yes, I know this is somewhat an idle wish. The New Year might very steamroll right over me no matter how I attempt to tame it. But until then, I’m opting to see the wealth of potential in the flipping of that last calendar page.
So… resolved: I will read more. Worry less. Pick up after my kids less and take the time to teach them better habits. Go out on more friend dates as a treat for myself. Write more letters and fewer emails. Choose something to study at home… the list goes on!
Looks like I’m still capable of writing. At least a little bit, anyway. Happy New Year to all and good luck with whatever you’ve resolved to improve your life this year!

Have you taken on that annual writing assignment yet? Have you made out your New Years resolutions? If so, do you work hard to achieve those goals, or is the act more of a seasonal novelty? And for those of you who don’t make out a list, why not? Post your thoughts for a chance to win a copy of Joanne’s SCENT OF A WOMAN, a book recently nominated for a Romantic Times’ Reviewers’ Choice Award.

I made two resolutions. First, to stop cussing, it’s such a horrible habit and it makes me sound stupid. Second, to continue writing on a full time basis. The first is made for the image that I project to everyone, the second is for my own sanity.

Hi Joanne!! I kind of make goals for myself, but they are ongoing and really I make them right when I think and need them. So I did that recently with 1) Being more assertive with doc’s and the like regarding my health. (Getting answers instead of “There’s nothing that can be done” and too, to do a journal to record all my books I read. Seems that I am good with remembering what I recently read, but I can’t reflect back further on what I read, so I want to do that
Hey Joanne, I see you have a new historical soon, A KNIGHT MOST WICKED! I love your historical romances! So glad you are writing those! And too a recent Blaze. You are busy! I am behind having been away a while so I must see how much I missed!

Happy New Year! I do make resolutions but they tend to be directions I want to go in. I want to clear some clutter out of the house, eat better, exercise more and try some different recipes for dinner.

Hi Joanne & everyone!
I haven’t made any resolutions in the past few years. Throughout the year I always set goals to lose weight, be more organized, be happy, swear less, go green, etc. But. no official New Year’s lists, when I did try to make resolutions, I broke them immediately, and its just not worth it :-P.

My New Years resolution is simple:
Live each day as if it were my last,
find joy in each day,
and make 2008 the best year of my life!
God Bless,
Rhonda :0)

Happy New Year! If I do make any resolutions, I now call them goals! I tend to take goals more importantly than resolutions. As I get older, my goals get simpler! My health is always important and being kind to other. Thanks,Cindi

I don’t make a list because it’s the same every year - exercise regularly, lose a few pounds, get more organized and enjoy life and my family!

I’m with Cindi–I’ve made resolutions before, but now I tend to think of them as goals… Mine this year are to make headway into my TBR, declutter the house somewhat, and to better prioritize my days… We’ll see how it goes!

I no longer make official lists either since they never came to fruition. I had a health scare this year so I’ve already started taking better care of me instead of everyone else. I’m also really, really trying to not sweat the small stuff but I’m still having problems with that one

Thank you all for posting about resolutions and I have to apologize for being slow to hop back on here.
We’ve had super bad winds up here the last couple of days and my Internet connection has been touchy at least. Basically, my husband holds the satellite dish at just the right angle long enough for me to send out some emails.
Clearly, we need to do a bit of upkeep work there!
Cathie, thanks so much for being as excited as me about the new historical! I really like the cover for this one, even if I ended up with a blonde gypsy. She’s lovely anyhow ;-). And hopefully what’s between the covers backs up the pretty outside. I always enjoy my jaunts to the past.
The thread winner is Rhonda Barnes, so congrats Rhonda! I will zip you off a private email ASAP to touch base on where to send your copy of SCENT OF A WOMAN.
Cheers!
Joanne
