Let’s Talk About Sex, Part I

Jackie Kessler

No, really — let’s talk about sex. In novels, that is. Sure, thanks to certain literary awards, we know who writes bad sex. But what about the good sex in fiction? As far as I know, there’s no such award (humph). I think there should be.

So I’m calling for nominations: Who do you think writes good sex in fiction? Any category/genre will do — literary, romance, fantasy, erotica, western (Brokeback Mountain, anyone?) — you name it. Give me the author and the book, and why you’re nominating the author. If someone already nominated the author/book you wanted to nominate, by all means, second, third and fourth it!

Next month’s post will list the top contenders for this fabulous Good Sex In Fiction contest.

  1. Emma Holly. She was the latest author whose writing I was impressed with. Her sex scenes meshed so well with the story that they couldn’t be skimmed over. Good stuff. ;)

  13. For sex overall, Emma Holly, hands down, for the reason listed in comment #1, and because in addition to the hotness, her writing conveys a natural, comfortable grasp of the idea that the very best sex scenes aren’t about the orgasms or about “proving” love, but about characterization.

In terms of power exchange kink, Joey W. Hill is far and away the best I’ve scene, both in terms of hotness and in terms of demonstrating a firm, realistic grasp on the psychological dynamics of power exchange.

  14. That’s hard to pin down!

I love the erotic novels written by MaryJanice Davidson. Very Sexy!
And, Angela Knight has some super sexy erotic books.

Jet Mykles and Jade Buchanan both write some HOT m/m sex and romance!

by Robin Snodgrass on December 1st, 2007 at 6:43 pm

  15. Sylvia Day’s erotic christmasy Secret Santa -Wish List with Nick & Steph also liked the relationship between Felicity and Thatcher in Elizabeth Boyle’s Love Letters From the Duke.
Bad sex?? sometimes it’s too short or too simple or you don’t see them getting together at all …But now a days that’s rare! I think most authors handle the chemistry very well.
