About our Contests and Giveaways

‘Tis Soon the Season

AR Fun

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at AccessRomance!

Since it’s officially the holiday season, we’d like to give you all a heads up that for the third year in a row, we’ll host the AccessRomance Holiday Contest with a prize giveaway from our authors every day in the month of December. And like last year, the contest will be hosted on this blog, taking the place of regular posts from our bloggers. Click here to take a peek at last year’s contest, with a complete list of the prizes offered. The first contest will be posted at approximately 10pm on December 1st, so make sure you check back for your chance to win!

To kick off the holiday fun, answer the following for a chance to win a surprise book from one of our authors plus some goodies: What sort of contest prizes do you prefer that authors offer? And what sort of prizes are you not interested in?

The winner of the giveaway was April! Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who replied!

  1. In my opinion the best prizes are books, bath products, gift certificates to retailers like Amazon and bookstores, free registration to classes and seminars and electronic gadgets.

The worst are bookmarks, chocolate and stuffed animals.

by Chicki Brown on November 22nd, 2007 at 6:19 am

  2. I agree with the books & the gift certificates!!
    Dislike tote bags & x-large T-shirts!

by Laurie on November 22nd, 2007 at 7:01 am

  3. I like books, gift certificates, tote bags, T-shirts, stuffed animals, e-book reader, some jewelry & crystal. I wouldn’t mind having a magnet with every win, those can go on the refrigerator. I collect them.
I don’t care for book plates or book markers, they just pile up. What do you really do with them?

by Tammy G. on November 22nd, 2007 at 7:40 am

  4. I like books or gift cetificates to Borders or B&N - brick and mortar. Re: Online gift certifs - the shipping is costly.

I have no use for bookmarks or coverflats, buttons, magnets. Don’t care for tee shirts, or body products - like to choose my own. Like to have a book in my hand - so no e-books or ebook reader devices for me.

    Happy Thanksgiving to All.

  5. I do see a $100 amazon gift certificate from last year. That I could do damage with! Would make an exception to win that one. LOL.

by Pat L on November 22nd, 2007 at 7:54 am

  6. Books, gift certificates, t-shirts, tote bags get my vote. Happy Thanksgiveing everyone!!!!

  9. My favorites are autographed books or receiving ARC’s. Coverflats and bookmarks are among my least favorite.

by Teresa W. on November 22nd, 2007 at 10:22 am

  10. Definitely books and Bookstores gift cards! I love ARC’s! lol.

by Wendy on November 22nd, 2007 at 10:41 am

  11. Books, gift cards, stationery items, journals, wirting notes. Coverflats, bookmarks, and and book plates are not necessary.

by annie on November 22nd, 2007 at 11:34 am

  12. Books, gift certificates, ARC’s and bath products are my favorites. I don’t care for T-shirts and tote bags.

by Susan on November 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 pm

  13. Books, gift cards, and ARC’s are my favorite.

by Joyce on November 22nd, 2007 at 12:43 pm

  14. Number one would be a signed book from the author and especially if they write it to you personally but after that books (no ebooks unfortunately) and GC’s. Added goodies are nice too like mugs, t-shirts or something that ties into the book. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

by catslady on November 22nd, 2007 at 12:50 pm

  15. Since I love to read, the best gifts are alway books (ARC’s are exceptionally great as are autographed copies) or gift cards for bookstores. I also think bath products, chocolate, or candles were interesting choices which many people enjoy. T-shirts were not a big item as generally the size is not usable for many people and coverflats are only important if you are a collector of these items. I also have seen and liked unique bookmarks that were made of beads, stones or something individual to the author or book that were offered as gifts that were quite beautiful and unusual.

by Shari C on November 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pm

  16. Books, Amazon GC, book thongs, bath products, XL t-shirt

    Book marks, coverflats least favorite

by RobynL on November 22nd, 2007 at 1:06 pm

  17. I love books, either paperback or ebook format, or GC’s to Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Have won some fun candle and lotion sets in the past, and of course, who can say no to chocolate.

by Cathy M on November 22nd, 2007 at 1:50 pm

  18. I like books, especially ARCs and gift certificates. There isn’t anything I don’t like. It’s a gift and it doesn’t costs me anything, so what’ s not to like.

by Jane on November 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 pm

  19. Autographed books and gift certificates are fabulous. Nicely done bookmarks are also great - I could never have too many bookmarks if it’s of the beautiful book cover . Bath products, t-shirts (size/style), chocolates may be more to personal taste so they may not appeal to everyone.

by allison on November 22nd, 2007 at 2:55 pm

  20. i love all the prizes, if i didnt i wouldnt enter, but books, items to match the books, arc would be nice
gift cert, tshirts, bath products, choclates
love booksmarks, i spend quite alot on stamps LOL

i think any item the auhtors choose , generous enough to even want to, to share with a winner is nice, no matter what , authors are thoughtful enough to offer a contest and to win something , then i really like the offer. and thank them

by tami on November 22nd, 2007 at 3:13 pm

  21. I like when books are offerred as prizes, it’s an opportunity for me to be introduced to a new author.

by Lauren on November 22nd, 2007 at 3:19 pm

  22. Books, chocolate, stationery items, items that are somehow tied to a book (like funny screen cleaner if one of the main characters is a nerd, wish pearl if he/she is a marine biologists, perfume he/she likes flowers etc.). Gift certificates are fun as long as you are able to use them. For example Amazon gift certificate is virtually useless if you don’t have a bank account in the States or if you don’t own a credit card. One option for that (I can’t believe I’m saying this) could be a gift certificate to an ebook store. At least with those you don’t have to worry about costly shipping… I don’t care for book plates or book markers, either.

by Minna on November 22nd, 2007 at 3:29 pm

  23. Like many, I most enjoy books, gift certificates and jewelry…however, I actually like signed bookplates and bookmarks too.

by Little Lamb Lost on November 22nd, 2007 at 4:48 pm

  24. My list is almost identical to Allison’s: autographed books, gift certificates to bookstores, starbucks, etc., bath goodies, teas and other yummies

by Christy H. on November 22nd, 2007 at 5:40 pm

  25. I like gift certificates, books, and chocolate

by Marie on November 22nd, 2007 at 5:58 pm

  26. choice of books, gcs to bookstore online preferable. gas is the same as shipping lol or worse for me now.
Like magnes, buttons, or tshirts. but my favorite prize is books and of course more books lol

by Pamk on November 22nd, 2007 at 6:08 pm

  27. The best prizes are books and gift certificates to online book retailers so I can choose. I prefer Amazon because they allow you to add GCs to an account so you can save up and order multiple books and now that there’s no expiry date I have lots of time. I don’t like B&N which only allows you one GC per purchase so if you get sent a $10 GC after shipping costs to Canada I’m not left with much for the book and have to chip in my own money so in the end it’s not an entirely a free gift.

I like chocolates and coffee as well. Book bags and T-shirt are great as long as they let you choose your size. I have so many T-shirts that are way too big! One size does not fit all! And I don’t need any more nightshirts. I once received a dozen roses which was a memorable prize. I also appreciate prizes that come from the author’s home location or from their travels as this personalizes the prize.

I don’t like bookmarks or cover flats because I get more of that than I know what to do with. I also got more pens than I can use in several lifetimes. I’ve gotten some jewelry, but that’s a really tricky gift, because some of it’s been to my taste, but more often NOT to my taste.

by Sue A. on November 22nd, 2007 at 6:18 pm

  28. No doubt books, and maybe it’s the season, but I’m happy with whatever an author gives as a prize. I don’t have to enter a contest if I’m not interested in the prize. I think it’s nice that authors and/or blogs have contests, so who am I to complain? *g*

by Stacy ~ on November 22nd, 2007 at 7:03 pm

  29. I like books, Amazon GC, bath products, T-Shirts and Chocolate.

by Estella on November 22nd, 2007 at 9:34 pm

  30. Books and Gift Certificates!

by Linda F on November 22nd, 2007 at 10:21 pm

  31. All the prizes are fabulous–it’s such a generous thing for the authors to do! I do agree that books and GCs are favorites, with knick-knacky things lower on the list (I’m such a packrat already–I don’t need help finding things to keep…unless they’re more books ;))

by Fedora on November 22nd, 2007 at 11:22 pm

  32. My favorite giveaway from authors is giftcards and books. My least favorite is e books and cover flats. I really don’t like cover flats at all. I’d rather have the book than just the cover! LOL

by RachaelfromNJ on November 23rd, 2007 at 12:33 am

  33. Access Romance and its authors are wonderful and I am happy to enter their contests for any prize they might be giving out but I confess my favorites will always be the books and gift certificates. My least favorite would be the disk’s full of excerpts, and only because they tantilize too much and I only get part of the story. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

by April on November 23rd, 2007 at 5:39 am

  34. Love books, bookstore gift certificates and chocolate. Books can be paper or ebook. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win them. It’s really generous.

by Laidybyrd on November 23rd, 2007 at 11:32 am

  35. I love print books, gift cards, chocolates, bath products. My least favorite are e-books because I don’t have an easy way to read them.

by Maureen on November 23rd, 2007 at 2:45 pm

  36. I love to receive gift cards, signed books, body wash sets, gift baskets with all sorts of goodies, jewelry, book thongs, book marks, chocolate, magnets, tote bags, t-shirts and posters.

My least favorite is disc with nothing but excerpts on it. I can read excerpts online why be teased again with the disc I want the book instead.

    Happy Holidays Everyone.

  37. I love to get books, bookmarks and bookplates. Really anything for me works except e-books. I like to hold a book in my hand, so can’t get into the e-book thing.
    Happy Holidays,
    Paula

by Paula on November 23rd, 2007 at 4:32 pm

  38. My vote is definitely a book. If it is autographed that is even better! I have won some really cool stuff in contests like an I-Pod once. I think the authors should be applauded for their generosity. I also enjoy receiving goodies along with the books such as magnets, stuffed animals, mugs, pens, etc. Gift baskets and gift certificates are always fun!

I would have to say my least favorite items are T-shirts and cover flats.
Happy holidays everyone! Stay safe and take care!
