That’s me today. Vivi Anna Cranky Pants.
I’m late with my blog post. I hate being late, but the truth is my mind is elsewhere. I’ve been forgetting a lot of things lately. Maybe it’s because this month is my release month and I’ve been running around the internet like a madwoman.
I do this to myself every release month. I completely overbook myself with chats, guestblogging, promo ops, like the one I’m doing at eharlequin.com…teaching world building…book signings, interviews, and podcasts. Have you checked out my podcast here at Access Romance? I sound all squeaky.
Whew! I’m tired just thinking about it all. And on top of that I have a book due soon.
And I suppose while I’m trying to catch my breath, I’m wondering if it’s all worth it. My book would sell without doing any of it. Does doing all of this really help me in the long run? I have no clue.
Now, I’m exhausted, and cranky… LOL
So to end this very short blog post my question is this, have you ever checked out an author further because of an ad you saw, a blog post you read, or a chat you’ve been to? Has it prompted you to want to read their books? Who was the last author you read that you discovered from being online?
Oh, and I forgot to pick my winner from my last blog post…so without any further delay…
Wendy, whose theme song was Breathe by Breaking Benjamin…come on down! Could you please email me at vivi@vivianna.net to claim your prize.

I have checked out several authors from finding them online & from blogs. I happen to be reading Bad Boys Ahoy! by Sylvia Day. She is an author I’ve come across online, and this isn’t the first book of hers I’ve read now. I really like her work. Some authors I’ve come across have been around for a long time and others are very new and I have found authors on both levels that I really enjoyed reading. And some you couldn’t tell that they haven’t written long the book was that good.

The last author I checked ou online was Nalini Singh. Then I bought her book Caressed by Ice. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but can tell by the blurb I will like it.

The last author I tried from online promotion was Adrianna Dane. I came across her podcasts, where she reads excerpts from her books. I can’t say that an ad has ever made me check out a book, but blogs and chats have piqued my interest.

Oh definitely. It’s been a great way to discover authors I might never have found otherwise, so I do feel like the effort is worth it. Monica McCarty is an author I recently came across at a blog and I probably would have passed her books up if I hadn’t read her post and found out more about her series. I haven’t read them yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

You know, since I first got my computer, I’ve been checking out authors and books on here. I think the last author I found online would be P C Cast. I loved her excerpts and blurbs for her books so much that I went out and bought a book of hers. Divine By Mistake was the book and I now have it up on my keep shelf. But their are so many other great authors out there too. Actually I found out about you online here too Vivi Anna. I bought your book “Hungry Like the Wolf.” and then had to get your other books.

I ignore ads unless they’re bad enough to be eye catching, and the kind of attention those get isn’t positive.
I regularly read several author blogs because I find that aspect of their writing entertaining, but if their books don’t interest me, the fact that I read their blogs doesn’t inspire me to buy them. On the other hand, if I’m talking to someone who’s looking for the kind of book Author X writes, I can refer them to Author X because I have that name recognition from my online reading.
The choice of how much to do rests on the perceived value of the activity versus how much it’s stressing you out. Don’t vanish entirely on us, but definitely cut back on the promo efforts if they leave you feeling crummy. Good books are always going to be the most important factor in sales anyway.

Yes, I do pick up an author’s book to peek at if I have read their blog posts or been in chat. I love learning the behind the scenes stuff, research they did, etc. The last author I tried because I had met them in chat was Rachel Caine.

Vivi,
Girl, I feel your pain. I’ve done the same to moi as well.
And yes, I have picked up a book or looked closer at an author’s work because of something they posted on the internet or a blog, etc.

Absolutely! One of the first was through an ad in a Writersnewspace email newsletter.
