I’m a Dreamer

Sasha White

I’m a dreamer … and I thank God every day for giving me a mother who instilled me with the belief that I could do anything if I set my mind to it, and then encouraged me to follow my dreams.

Not everybody had that.

As a waitress I get to meet people from all walks of life, and I’m always somewhat shocked when I meet someone who clearly has a passion for something, yet they brush aside that passion because “It’s not practical.” Or “I could never make a living at it.” I just don’t understand why they don’t go after the life they want.

In TROUBLE, my latest release from Berkley Heat, the heroine, Samair Jones, is one of those people. For years she’s denied her own dreams and passions to live the life she thought she was supposed to. Until finally, one day she’s just had enough. After all … What’s life if you’re not going to live it?

With Samair I got to take one of those people who confuse me with not going after their dreams, and set her on the path to doing so. For me, the rest of the story pretty much wrote itself, I think Samair’s passion had a lot to do with that.

The hero of TROUBLE, Valentine Ward, is completely practical. He was raised in the foster care system, has no family, and has learned to take care of himself, and to always get what he wants. So even though he’s the practical sort, he still always goes after his dreams. If that makes no sense, I’m sorry. I’m just not sure how else to explain him without giving it all away.

My point? I’ve gone after many of my own dreams, I’ve traveled the world, climbed mountains in Nepal, been on safari in Africa (as well as lived on the beach and swam with wild dolphins) and several pub crawls in Ireland. Those are just a few of the dreams I’ve had, and succeeded in living. Another one is writing a novel.

TROUBLE is my third single title novel, my second with Berkley, and I want to thank all the readers or romance, especially erotic romance, for going out there and buying books. Without you, I’d not be able to continue to live one of my dreams. And as a thank you, just comment here to be entered to win a signed copy of TROUBLE or LUSH.

  1. Hi Sasha,

in my opinion it’s really important to follow your dreams. My own life wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t follow them

  2. The only dream I ever had was to be a mom. Which I am now. But now I’m thinking of opening my own business. I really want to do that but I have to think about how much it’ll cost, ect.

  4. It takes courage to live a dream and to change it if/when a dream is no longer what you want. My current dream is of settling down and I am in the middle of doing just that.

Am glad that you followed your dreams Sasha, it makes life a richer experience.

  12. Follow your dreams, now that is good advice! I think it’s important to get this idea in the minds of children. I’m a Mom and I all ways tell my daughter to follow her dreams. Last year I put the idea on a large canvas in her room it said (FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND USE YOUR CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION TO COLOR YOUR WORLD). I’m looking forward to reading your book.

  16. Hi Sasha! I’m so happy to hear that you’ve followed your dreams! It definitely lets me know that doing so is possible. There’s so many things I want to do and I’m determined to do them! Yeah! :D

by Wendy on October 2nd, 2007 at 5:27 pm

  17. Congratulations on your success and following your dreams! I tend to sit back and think some of my dreams are a wee bit out of reach. I do though, try to fulfill the small dreams I have. That’s a start. lol

  18. Where would we be without our dreams and the thought that we could reach for them and make them come true. Life would be pretty dull I think without our dreams to strive for and have us extend ourselves beyond our self imposed limits to realize what we are capable of.

by Shari C on October 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 pm

  19. Thanks everyone, fro commenting. It’s great to see so many of us following, or trying to follow our dreams, no matter what they are.

And Sue, thanks for the comment about the Slim Camp. So far I thinkit’s going well!

by Sasha White on October 2nd, 2007 at 6:59 pm

  20. I think many of us are too afraid to go for it.
I admire anyone that can and does just say WTF and pursues their goal.
I’m not that way…I wish I were but I just got bogged down in doing what was expected.

  21. I think that instilling the need to dream and follow dreams is one of the best gifts a parent can give you - along with love of course! I’ve always believed I can do anything I set my mind on. At the end of my time I don’t want to have any regrets!

by Shelley Munro on October 2nd, 2007 at 11:33 pm

  22. The fear of failure can hold people back, but I think that a person can’t really have a fulfilling life unless they do follow their dreams. But anything worth having is worth working towards - it wouldn’t be very rewarding if it weren’t. You should be proud of yourself for following your dreams and working hard to make them happen.

  23. Stacy, I think fear of success can also hold people back. People too often say they can;t do something, but I kwno in thier minds it more like, “If I do succeed, will it all be worht it?”

    Making any sense?
