For Today
Tuesday, September 11th, 2007Look to this day:
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence;
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty.
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day…
Such is the salutation to the dawn.
There are several variations of this ancient Sanskrit poem which is sometimes attributed to Kalidasa. I often read this version (and other pieces that catch my fancy) early in the morning before the rush of the day begins.
Today it seemed particularly poignant—and my thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones.
Do you have a favorite piece of writing—or a quote—that inspires you?
