I love love love action flicks. I saw the Bourne Ultimatum yesterday and I was in pure action heaven. It was the best one yet. Thrilling action from frame one to the last.

But you know one of my favorite parts of the movie…a bit of dialogue. It was just one line, but it was delivered expertly by the amazing Matt Damon and I nearly jumped out of my seat and said “Damn! Now that’s a good piece of writing.”
I mean, it all started with a script. Well, for this movie, it really all started with a book. A damn good book, with a brilliant storyline, well crafted plot, dynamic characters, and for me some awesome dialogue. It all begins with a simple word…
For the rest of the day I was in awe of those words, and it really hit me why I write. It was my excitement at hearing a piece of dialogue, and seeing an action scene in my mind as I race along with the characters. Writers are word artists.
And I’m proud to be one of them.
***and I feel the need to give some books away***
So, here’s my question…has there been any piece of dialogue or scene in a book you’ve read lately that took your breath away??? Or you thought was helluva cool?
Two lucky commenters will get their choice from my backlist.

No, I haven’t been blown away lately and I’d really like to be. How about sending me something?

This wasn’t from a book I read recently, but one of my first romance books that really got me interested in the Temptation line that Harlequin used to have. I still have the book in my personal library and will read it every once in a while. It was called Easy Lovin’ and a straitlaced Kate from up North becomes involved with southern Jesse from New Orleans. It was romantic and light humor and I loved it. Jesse finds he has fallen for a Yankee! As their big love scene plays out very old fashioned Kate has had her dress removed and Jesse finds she (trying to be more feminine and soft) is now only wearing lace panties and a garter belt with roses on to surprise him. He states he always liked feminine fripperies and fancies; lace and bows and soft, silky fabrics say “woman” to him and lingerie of almost any kind is a visual turn-on simply because of the intimacy involved. He promises Kate a night of slow and easy lovin’ and delivers on his word. I just melted reading this scene and loved the whole book.
My taste in books has expanded considerably since then to stronger women and more action and suspense plus the paranormal romance stories, but the feminine side of me sometimes loves to go back to these simple love stories that started it all for my love of novels.

Hello Vivi,
Long time no hear from *G* I can’t wait to see Bourne Ultimatum.
There is a book now that I am reading and I think it’s so cool how the story flashes back and forth from the present to flashbacks of the 80’s and the main character’s childhood. My best friend recommended this book. It’s very good book and I am enjoying it

I just finished reading Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I thought the fighting scene when they try to close the opening before the release of some demons. Not saying much more than that so I don’t ruin the scene for those who have not read it yet.
I’ve heard several people tell me they liked Bourne 3 - it was the best one.

I just recently read two of Nalini Singh’s books back to back, Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat, and all is I can say is “Wow!” They were awesome. I had so much trouble putting them down, even to sleep. These books made me cry, I felt angry aat moments of injustice and occasionally laughed at some funny moments. I was stunned by this paranormal series which caused me to feel multiple emotions and she is now a must buy author for me.

I watched movie Cake the other night and the hero said to the heroine, “When’s the last time you had a date?” It just summed things up perfectly, because she didn’t want a relationship, didn’t really date. Thought that was a cool piece of dialogue.

I love killer first lines and dynamic first chapters. The first line of No Second Chance by Harlan Coben ”When the first bullet hit my chest, I thought of my daughter. ”
Allison Brennan’s book See No Evil..opening first two lines in the prologue:
”The teenaged girl had the gun in her hand. Paul Judson was supposed to be her first kill.”
I love books that start off great like those!

Just got thru reading Edge of Midnight by Shannon McKenna, who writes fabulous dialogue. I picked this one of Sean talking about Tam:
“Really. She’s a fine-looking woman, sure, but she’s too goddamn skinny. It worries me. She should see a doctor, drink some Ovaltine, stop smoking. I don’t know. And she’s not my type, sexually. It’s like she’s made out of stainless steel. Steel doesn’t turn me on. Neither does fighting a duel to the death every goddamn second. It’s fun for a while, sure, but it’s exhausting. I’m a lover, not a fighter, you know? I like cuddling, tickling, hugging. Who could cuddle with Tam?”

Yup - this line from Sweet Water by Anna Jeffery - as the hero was making love to the heroine with his fingers, he said - just pretend it is my 8 inches loving you.
Then, there was the gutwrenching last few pages from Linda Howard’s Sarah’s Child, when he picks up his crying daughter. Sarah is his 2nd wife and he did not want any more children as both his children died along with his wife and he couldn’t risk losing another child - but fate steps in and Rome and Sarah do have a child. Rome ignores the child til the end of the book……

Ah, Vivi~ I am a big action flick fan, too! I haven’t seen any of the Bourne films, though. The last really good action movie I saw was Transporter II…loves me some Jason Statham.
I have several quotes from movies that I just love.
From “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest:
“Get out of my way son, you’re usin’ my oxygen.”
From “Bull Durham” (a movie I love beyond belief!)
“Man that ball got outta here in a hurry. I mean anything travels that far oughta have a damn stewardess on it, don’t you think? ”
From “Army of Darkness”~ (Where the hero Ash, who works at the S-mart, is sucked into a vortex into medieval times and the locals are messing with him, bad!)
” Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This… is my BOOMSTICK! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart’s top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That’s right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It’s got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That’s right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You *got* that?”
Cracks me up every time!
From a book I just read, JR Ward’s “Lover Awakened”
“Let me count the ways we just ain’t gonna go there!”

I forgot to mention that I DID see Bourne Ultimatum. I liked it alot too, but my only problem was that the movie seemed to be moving faster then my brain could handle. I wish it didn’t move so fast at parts. Besides that, great movie!

Hey Vivi, I just saw it this weekend and loved it. I want some more.
Hmmm, I’ve read some memorable stuff in Brockmann, but nothing I can quote verbatim. But my favorite is in the “Die Hard” movie when Bruce Willis is all “Yippeekieyay, MF”. That said it all LOL.

There are so many wonderful lines written by authors but I cannot remember them all right now as I type this. What is sticking in my mind was a very romantic scene I read in Julia Quinn’s “An Offer From A Gentleman”. Its from a scene where house maid Sophie Beckett dresses up in costume and looking like part of the ton sneaks off to a party where she meets Benedict Bridgerton. She tells him she cannot dance so he takes her to a hidden place in the house to teach her a few steps. Thats where these lines/this scene came in…
“The music.” Her eyes widened with excitement. “I hear the music as I never have before.”
His hand tightened, and the space between them diminished by several inches. “What do you see?” he asked.
Sophie stumbled, but never took her eyes off his. “My soul.” she whispered. “I see my very soul.”
He stopped dancing. “What did you say? he whispered.
She held silent. The moment seemed too charged, too meaningful, and she was afraid she’d spoil it.
How on earth was she going to go back to polishing Araminta’s shoes?
“I know what you said.” Benedict said hoarsely. “I heard you, and…”
“Don’t say anything” Sophie cut in. She didnt want him to tell her that he felt the same way, didnt want to hear anything that would leave her pining for this man forever.
But it was probably already too late for that.
He stared at her for an agonizingly long moment, then murmured, “I won’t speak. I won’t say a word.” And then, before she even had a second to breathe, his lips were on hers, exquisitly gentle and achingly tender.

Forget the name of the Steven Seigal movie, but he’s a chef on a boat that bad guys take over.
They find him and he says, “I’m just a lowly chef.”
Then he kicks some serious butt.
