Summer Craziness!

Myla Jackson

Most people look forward to summer. I’m looking forward to fall! This summer was absolutely crazy! My fourteen-year-old daughter (I know, they’re not human at this age) is involved in pom squad and volleyball. So what does that mean for dear old mom? Highly interrupted writing days, that’s what. Practice from 9:00-11:00 every day of the summer for volleyball. I mean really, what do the parents do that have to go to their day jobs? She had two volloeyball camps, church camp and pom camp, most of which I had to transport her back and forth from. Top that with one week-long-drive-from-Arkansas-to-Florida Disney trip, one driving trip to RWA National and a flying trip to Huntsville, AL, one new boat with obigatory trips to the lake, babysitting my mother’s three dogs (along with my own two, let’s do the math…5 dogs!)and my inlaws visit and my summer was a frenzy of driving, dropping off the kid, teaching workshops and scooping dog poop. I’m sooooo ready for school to be back in. I need the rest!

It was so crazy I ended up extending one of my writing deadlines. And now that I’m done with that particular writing project, I’m brain dead and just working at my husband’s shop to get the mental down-time.

Any of you have a similar love-hate relationship with summer? Are you looking forward to relaxing when the fall comes?

Oh one great piece of news, Trouble with Harry, Trouble with Will and Jacq’s Warlord finally came out in print at Ellora’s Cave. Just in time for RWA nationals signing. I love that I write e-books, but I love even more to hold books in my hands and these are gorgeous!

  2. Great news on the books in print. I admit I prefer them myself, and I’ve enjoyed several EC books. I know they’re more expensive, but I am a re-reader, and get more mileage out of a pint book.

Me, I have no kids, and I get depressed during fall even though it’s beautiful because it’s that much closer to winter, so for me, the love-hate thing is I love summer and hate to see it end.
