AR Fun

For today’s AR Fun, we have some questions for you!

Leave a comment to be entered in the drawing. One lucky winner will receive a surprise book from one of our authors plus some fun goodies! The winner will be picked tomorrow night. Good luck!

1. Do you know what a podcast is? If you could just click to play streaming audio (like you would a YouTube video, instead of having to download a file), would you be interested in listening to some short author podcasts? If so, which of these features would you appreciate in the podcast: A quick interview with the author? The author talking about some behind the scenes tidbits about her books? The author reading a short excerpt from her latest book? Or…do you have any other suggestions?

2. Here at AccessRomance, we’re always trying to find ways to improve our site and make visiting us a more fun and interesting experience. Do you have any suggestions for any new features you’d like to see us add? Anything we can do to improve our exisiting content?

The winner is Deborah! Congratulations, and thanks to everyone else for your comments!

  1. I have heard of a podcast, not really sure what it is. I guess it is a tape that you put on your ipod. And no I wouldnt be interested as I like to spend my extra time reading and watching some t.v. I get all the info on books and authors on the various internet sites that I enjoy frequenting.

I like your site - it is informative, offers contests, is very easy to navigate and very pleasant to the eye. If it aint broken, don’t fix it. I know sites are always updating to improve or freshen up. I cant think of anything but am sure there is always something.

by Pat L. on May 30th, 2007 at 6:37 am

  2. I agree with Pat. I love visiting blogs to read about different authors and their books. You actually learn more about the book from the blog than you do the website. That’s what I like about your site. I’m not a podcast person. So please don’t change it. I like your site the way it is.

  3. I do know what a podcast is. I would listen to maybe an excerpt or talking about the story. Sometimes its hard to listen to, I still have dail up. And that doesn’t work well always.
I like the site very much. Can’t think of anything to improve.

by Stacy S on May 30th, 2007 at 7:32 am

  4. I have only heard the term podcast. I would likely try it if it were merely a click and not having to download. I suppose I would be most interested in hearing about behind the scenes tidbits.

by Little Lamb Lost on May 30th, 2007 at 7:56 am

  5. My internet connection is too slow that I could enjoy streaming audio etc. But otherwise it’s a great idea.

by Minna on May 30th, 2007 at 8:49 am

  6. A podcast wouldn’t be necessary. I enjoy your wonderful website with all the author’s that you feature. All the contests, and the information you provide gives me great enjoyment and I appreciate the updates and current news.

by anne on May 30th, 2007 at 9:29 am

  7. Oh, my - more tech stuff ! I don’t even have a cell phone or ipod… I like your blog just fine the way it is! I find I quit going to blogs with all the new bells and whistles. To be honest, I don’t think most people spend much more than a few minutes on any one site - complicating it could end up with a loss of readers. I’m in my 60s - perhaps the youngsters would love the new fangled stuff…

by Karen B on May 30th, 2007 at 9:29 am

  8. I do know what a podcast is and would love to hear an author reading a short excerpt from her latest book! I’ve listened to them on other sites and I think they have more impact than reading a blurb. I enjoy your site very much and will continue to stop here daily!

by Susan on May 30th, 2007 at 9:53 am

  9. I would love to listen to author’s podcasts. I would love to hear a quick interview with the author, the author talking about some behind the scenes tidbits about her books, or the author reading a short excerpt from her latest book. I love your website. Everything is perfect. lol I would like to see more author chats here. Like maybe a chat one night a week where we can chat with the authors about their books, new releases, and coming soon books.

  10. I do know what a podcast is, and I think they could be a wonderful addition. I would much rather click to play than have to download. I would be interested in hearing about the author’s upcoming books, any behind-the-scenes information, and a short interview as well. This site is already fantastic, but I do think this may be yet another entertaining source of information.

by Zara on May 30th, 2007 at 10:31 am

  11. I would like to be able to hear the author interviews through a podcast, but I understand people complaining because of slow dial up. As for the site, it is wonderful, I visit everyday to check out the blog and read the latest. I took one of your classes recently and really enjoyed it. The only thing that I can think of is to add more classes.

by Patty L. on May 30th, 2007 at 11:10 am

  12. I’m a bit of a podcast fanatic. I download them to my iPod and listen at work. I would love to add another podcast to my list.

by Jennifer K. on May 30th, 2007 at 11:28 am

  13. Nope, I don’t know what podcast is…is that what is used on the Ytube?

by Lisa W on May 30th, 2007 at 11:49 am

  14. I am not techie savvy so I am not familiar with podcast. If it’s the “shows/films” that some others have on their site then it’s okay to watch but my computer is really slow so sometimes it doesn’t work.

by Shuck Ying on May 30th, 2007 at 11:50 am

  15. Sure podcast sounds like fun. I like the idea of the “behind the scenes tidbits about her books”.

by Deborah on May 30th, 2007 at 11:51 am

  16. that sounds very good and i would because i am always on the comptuer

by kim h on May 30th, 2007 at 12:01 pm

  17. I am not familiar with a podcast but if you could click it on easily that would be something I would watch. I would like to hear the author talk about their book with some “behind the scenes” type information.

by Maureen on May 30th, 2007 at 12:41 pm

  18. You know readers are always wondering what their favorite authors are reading. How about a post listing what you the writers of access romance are or have read each month with a simple thumbs up or down.

by Sue A. on May 30th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

  19. I know what a pod cast is. I think it would be great . I’m on the puter everyday, it would be an extention to reading.

by Paula on May 30th, 2007 at 3:03 pm

  20. Yes, I know what a podcast is. I would be more interested if it was just a click-on instead of having to download. I would really enjoy hearing the author read an excerpt from their book.

I can’t think of any features I’d like to see on your site that aren’t already incorporated.

by Cheryl S. on May 30th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

  21. I would try it if it were a click and not having to download. I suppose I would be most interested in hearing about behind the scenes tidbits and perhaps an author reading a bit of an excerpt. Interesting.

by RobynL on May 30th, 2007 at 3:19 pm

  22. I have heard of podcasts but don’t view them because my computer runs to slow.

by Teresa W. on May 30th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

  23. I have heard of a podcast. I think it would be great to have author interviews and previews of upcoming books.

I enjoy the daily blogs. Can’t think of anything more right now though.:-)

by Carol on May 30th, 2007 at 3:31 pm

  24. I’ve heard of a podcast but I’m not really interested in them. I just prefer blurbs about upcoming new releases and going to the author websites to learn more. As for this website, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love coming to this blog and chatting with the wonderful authors here.

by Janet on May 30th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

  25. I am not familiar with podcasts. As for additions, maybe a recipe spotlight. An author can share a recipe that is a favorite of a specific character. I love it when authors include a special recipe in a book so why not have them do one in some kind of spotlight for their latest book and give us some further insight into their book. It would make the character seem more like a real person.

by Cherie Japp on May 30th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

  26. I’ve heard of podcasts but haven’t listened to any. I’d like to hear an interview with the author and behind the scenes tidbits about her books.

by Maria on May 30th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

  27. I have heard what a podcast is..however, the last time I tried to view one my computer took way too long to let me view it. Since then, I haven’t had the time to view many podcasts. :(

As for comments about the site, I think it would be great for authors and readers it there was a section that contained a list of recent blog winners. Then authors would have a specific place to put the winner and the reader could know as soon as the winner was chosen just by looking at this list. Well, that’s my thought :) Otherwise, this is a GREAT website/blog!!!!

by Kathleen on May 30th, 2007 at 5:34 pm

  28. I know what a podcast is, have listened to them, but I prefer text. Podcasts require more time and commitment. And they seem to be more about authors than books… I have to say I’m more interested in books, no offense. ;)

by Paula (2) on May 30th, 2007 at 5:36 pm

  29. Like many of us I don’t have a lot of time. I like being able to skim a topic and if I want to delve deeper into it I can. It’s hard to skim a podcast.

by Joyce on May 30th, 2007 at 6:39 pm

  30. I know what a podcast is but I have not listened to any. I think that they would be good for car rides.

by Linda F on May 30th, 2007 at 8:30 pm

  31. I know what it is but unfortunately I’m still on dial up and that really sucks because I can’t do a lot of things because it either won’t let me or it takes forever and a day.

by catslady on May 30th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

  32. I like podcasts okay. But I don’t go out of my way to look for them. I do listen to them every so often on Sherilyn Kenyon’s site. Most of the ones I listen to are like audio blog entries. I like to hear authors read excerpts. Come on! You know you wonder what your favorite author sounds like! It is pretty cool!

by Angie T on May 30th, 2007 at 9:50 pm

  33. I think a podcast would be interesting, especially hearing behind the scenes info on books.

by Lis on May 31st, 2007 at 1:44 am

  34. I’ve recently been introduced to podcasts and I find I do enjoy them. I am interested to hear what my favorite authors sound like, find out the behind the scenes tid-bits about the author and how or why he/she wrote their story and characters the way they did. Would also be interesting to hear/read the deleted parts of a book that a publisher or author had to edit out, as well as see the book cover designs that didn’t make it.
I enjoy access romance just the way it is. Thanks for having this site and letting me be a part of it.

by April on May 31st, 2007 at 2:02 am

  35. I’m okay with it, as long as it didn’t take over the other features of this blog. Since I obviously love to read, I still want to read blog posts too. So if it was a regular feature, done weekly, I’d be okay with that.

by Stacy ~ on May 31st, 2007 at 5:30 am

  36. I haven’t listened to any podcasts, although I’ve heard of them. I always enjoy reading behind the scenes information on a book, but that’s after I read it. I would probably click on a podcast, but I prefer to just read about it.

Maybe you could have a “friend’s first” feature. If the existing authors have a friend that has their first book out, they could introduce them on the blog. I always love to hear about new authors.

by KimW on May 31st, 2007 at 6:01 am

  37. I haven’t listened to any pod casts but I think they would be an interesting addition.

  38. The winner was Deborah! Congratulations, and thanks to everyone else for your comments!
