Or the tub isn’t just for getting clean!
Life’s so darn busy with stuff that’s got to get done right now or the world will explode, it’s hard to find time to do what we want to do…like read a good book!
People hate the thought of flying or layovers in airports or the doctor or dentist keeping me waiting in his office but I love, love, love it! Fact is, I go with the airlines with the worse “on time” record. I go to the dentist in town with the worse waiting schedule. I don’t ask how good is he/she but how looong does he/she keep you waiting.
Honey, this is no-guilt reading! I can’t be cleaning the house or paying bills or writing that next book. It’s down time for me…and usually people even feel sorry for me. “Oh, gee, you got stuck in Atlanta airport for three hours? Poor you!”
Ha! I ate a cheeseburger, double fries and read! Sweet!
I know this is going to extremes but with everyone wanting something from me…and you…this works! But the trouble is I can’t be at these places all that much. The doc and dentist are once a year, flying the same.
Soooo, that means I have to find time and a place to squeeze in some reading. Late at night curled in a chair is good but I keep falling asleep or sometimes, with a really good read, not going to bed till the wee hours. The tub is good but I get pruney fast and my skin looks like elephant hide. We all have to make sacrifices.
But where do you read and when? I need some suggestions here. I’ll give away a The Morgue the Merrier (BRAVA 9/07) tote from the responses.
Happy reading…wherever you can find a place.
Hugs, Dianne

Morning Dianne,
my favorite places to read are my bed and a comfortable chair. But I always have a book with me and I read every free minute, no matter if I am waiting on the train to arrive, the lecture to start or while waiting for my doc. My books and mp3 player that kept me sane during the long to the US and back.

Good morning. I read whenever I can - at the dr. or dentist’s office - at work (yes, really) when I can. Also try to get serious reading time in on the couch after work after I have excerised, eaten and done whatever else I have to do.
I always bring a book or two when I go on vacation - besides reading on the plane, you never know if you will have some down time and why waste minutes when you can sit down with a book.

Good morning. One of my favorite places to read is in the carpool line. I take a drink, arrive early, kick my feet up and read while waiting for my son to get out of school. I also love reading in the bath or on the front porch when the weather is nice. And of course the beach when I get a chance to go.

I always read in bed before I go to sleep each night. How much depends on how good the book is and what time I lay down. I always take a book with me to work so I can read a few chapters on my break. I also read at home on my couch when I have everything else around the house done.

Reading in bed for a bit at the end of my day is my favorite….if I fall asleep, I am at least in the right place to do it.
If I have to wait in long lines anywhere or for an appointment I always have a book handy.

I love to read in the backyard under the umbrella since it is warm and relaxing. If weather is not perfect then I read in the most comfy loveseat in the den.

I’m a night reader, too. Well, truthfully, I would spend all day, every day reading if I could
But every night before I fall asleep I read for 2-3 hours. That’s my reward at the end of the day. When I travel, I always take several books with me and read at every opportunity.

Have book will travel!
We all read anytime we get the chance. My dh can read and watch TV and I cannot do that at all. I need some degree of quiet…and food. Eating and reading is the best combo. Used to to chocolate and now have to do popcorn or I’ll never get into my summer clothes again.

My favorite place to read is in the pool during the summer. But since that only gives me about 3 months… well, like most everyone else, I read most anywhere. But if the pool’s not available, my next favorite spot is in bed.

I can’t believe that no one mentioned it… I read everytime I take a bath. Have a heavy hand with the bubbles, make it nice and steamy, and relax with the book of the day.
That is my idea of a relaxing place to read.

Now that weathers warming, I think the backyard garden is a great place to read. Just put on the right clothing for the weather and add some cushions to an outdoor chair and you’re set.

I’m with you. I take a book everywhere. I read at night in bed - have 3 different kinds of light depending on whether husband is in bed too but just recently I got him one of those night masks which makes us both happy lol. I love surprise times to read. One of the biggest is when the electricity goes out. You can’t be expected to have to do anything when that happens so out comes either the candles or my nifty lantern. I miss the days when I used to take my kids to the pool - they swam and I read. I also miss the days when it used to take an hour each way to work - my husband drove - and I read lol.

Lol Dianne, you and I are a great deal alike in our reading habits. I don’t get much time for reading during the day, with work and my children. Therefore, I like to read while I soak in the tub at night or in bed after hubby and the kidlets are asleep. Also, when picking up my daughter from school, I get there early in the pick-up line just so that I have time to read while I wait. I am parked when I’m doing this, by the way. Even I don’t read while driving lol.

I squeeze in reading whenever I get a chance. I read while waiting for appointments especially oil change for my bug because I don’t have to do anything but wait. I read during my lunch break or while riding in a car especially on long trips. However, my favorite time to read is late at night when everyone else is in bed and no one is around to distract me.

Hi Dianne:
I read in my car during my lunch hour. I hated the long lunch when I first started my job, but I learned to appreciate the quiet with a good book. I also read in the evening if I am having trouble concentrating on the book that I am working on. I love to read by my pool in the summer, very relaxing. I also have been know to lay in the pool hammock and reading. The kids don’t like this because I will not let them splash in the area that I am floating. LOL I also love to read, while lying on the beach and listening to the waves in the background.

I often read on the screen porch when I get home from work. He helps me to wind down and clear my mind. I also like to read in the car when my husband is driving.

I love to sit outside on a nice day by our one and only tree in the back yard and read with a cool lemonade at my side.
I read in the vehicle whilst waiting for dh at a meeting.
I read whenever I take the bus on a long ride-usually 2 hr. trip.
I love reading in bed with a bag of chips for company.

wow, you are read as much as I do! And every chance you get. I think with life being so busy we have to. And…it’s like a mini vacation away from all the stress.
Thanks for writing, everyone. I really appreciate it.
And the winner of the tote is…Gail Barrett!

Congrats Gail!
My favorite place to read is in bed, all comfy and relaxed. I can’t read on a plane or in public places - I’m too easily distracted. So I read before I go to bed…which sometimes is much later than I planned when I’m reading a good book.
