You Fill Up My Senses

Tessa Radley

Last time I spoke about all the places I want to visit. I’ve been doing quite a bit of writing since then. And one of the books I’ve recently completed is set in Greece in November. And it’s cold and rainy. My heroine told me she much preferred the Greek Islands in summer. And I made a discovery: Like my heroine, I like ALL my holiday destinations to be warm—and preferably at a remote-ish beach. With a bag of good books, a comfortable deckchair and prickle of the sun on my skin.  If I can’t get the sea, a lake will do just fine, too.

One of my best friends likes to explore cities when she travels-London, New York, Athens, Melbourne, Rome. That’s her idea of a great getaway. She loves the smell of the city…the vibe of people buzzing around…the galleries and coffeeshops. Sometimes I’ve broken out of my beach rut and done the city stay—and I’ve loved it. But it had better be warm!

My husband sometimes enjoys cold places. Brrrr. Mountains with snow and lots of brisk activity in the day. A warm fireplace and a good meal at night. And then a soft bed to sink into after a long day.

Superromance author, Terry McLaughlin, a fellow Golden Heart finalist in 2004 and good friend, loves her redwoods. And if you look at the photo you can see why! Aren’t those trees amazing?

So are you a mountain person? A beach bum? A  city slicker?  A snow bunny? Or do you have a totally different kind of place that fills your senses?

I’m going to be taking a wander to a beach on the west coast for a couple of days. And on Friday I’ll draw someone out the comments to win a copy of BLACK WIDOW BRIDE my April debut (YAY!) Silhouette Desire.

******THE WINNER IS STACY S!! ******

  1. Tessa,
I just love your photos. I think I would like to spend the weekend in a cabin surrounded by lots of trees from the woods and having a rocking chair on the porch and just be able to read the day away. A day free from worries. I do like the beach too although, it’s been years since I’ve been. My husband is just content to stay at home and I have a three year old which makes it not as convenient to travel except to visit my family in New Jersey.

  2. Cabin with a sauna, lake and plenty of trees around. That’s my idea of heaven.

  3. I’d like a beach near a city. So, that way I can get culture from the area and then go relax on the beach. Sounds like the perfect getaway…now if I could only go.

  4. That may sound a little bit strange but I don’t have a favorite place. I’ve been to lots of places. Till now I haven’t been to the place where I’m happy just for being there. Hey.. my vacations weren’t really that bad, it’s just they weren’t that good. I guess I’m mainly a company person. If the company is right then the place would be the best even if it was not.

  5. I love the coast and it certainly doesn’t have to be warm if there is a fireplace in the room and a sliding door view of the sea. I can then wander the coast to my heart’s content and then snuggle in cozily by the fire with a great read and still enjoy the sunset even in the chill.

  6. Oh, I’m a city person. . . but I sure wouldn’t mind visiting those places!! Just probably wouldn’t be able to stay there for longer than a week or so! LOL :)

  7. I am not a water person but I love being at my sister’s cabin and sitting on the deck watching the Sea Do’s, Wave Runners, Quads, golf carts, boats and the beautiful sunset over the water. The kids, big and small, are enjoying the different motor vehicles. We light the fire pit and sit around.

  8. I love spending the day at the beach with a good book.

  9. Have a great time on the beach!

  10. I am also like you….I prefer a warm holiday so no skiing for me.

by Deborah on May 2nd, 2007 at 2:13 pm

  11. I wish I was going on a trip, lol.

  12. I love the beach, the sunshine, the sand, the water and I just feel relaxed. I walk along the shore, sit in a beach chair and read a wonderful novel and that is heaven to me.

  13. Just give me warm weather to be on a beach soaking up the rays and a nice cold drink to top it off!

by Teresa W. on May 2nd, 2007 at 4:03 pm

  14. The beach. I love the sound of the waves and the heat of the sun. A cabana boy would be great, but peace would be even better.

by patty L. on May 2nd, 2007 at 5:52 pm

  15. I am definitely not a beach person. I burn very, very easily. So it is definitely the mountains and trees with lots of SHADE!

  16. I am definitely a beach person. I do not like the cold!

by Linda F on May 2nd, 2007 at 7:46 pm

  17. The beach is my first love and the mountains are a very close second.
I love the Gulf of Mexico…white sand, warm water, plenty of sun and best of all…
    boat drinks!!

  18. I’ve only been on a cruise once but by far that was my favorite “place.” You get the best of all worlds I think - the comforts of the ship with tons of activities (if you want) and all the many places that it can take you.

by catslady on May 2nd, 2007 at 8:52 pm

  19. I like the temperature warm so I prefer the beach in the fall, winter and spring. I don’t like HOT and HUMID! The mountains are striking BUT I would only visit them in the summer. I’ve seen enough snow to last me a lifetime!
I find traveling to be quite stressful. So I’m going to be content to sit in my backyard and read this summer.

  20. Great pictures.. I love the water and mountains. So any place that has either would be good.

by Stacy S on May 3rd, 2007 at 5:35 am

  21. I would say sunny weather, temps around 80, and a private beach sound heavenly. Watching the sun set over the water is wonderful. Oh, and I loved the cruise I was on and can’t wait to do it again. Especially if it’s cold here - rejuvenates the spirit.

by Stacy ~ on May 3rd, 2007 at 5:38 am

  22. I’m a mountains gal! Hiking and taking a swim in a cool mountain lake under a blue cloudless sky is the closest thing you can get to heaven!

by Susan on May 3rd, 2007 at 10:47 am

  23. Much to my parents dismay, I’m not really an outdoorsy type of girl (I think too much camping up to the age of 5 lol) so I’d prefer hanging out in a city I think. Or maybe a beach and look at the ocean, since I haven’t seen it

by Lis on May 3rd, 2007 at 12:53 pm

  24. I’m a city slicker. I would much rather go to a play and have a nice dinner somewhere than to go camping! I don’t mind a walk in the park but that’s it! lol

by Carol on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:41 pm

  25. I’m a beach bum. I love walking along the sand, wading in the water, orswimming. I also love lazing around under an umbrella and just reading a book. Wish I were going with you. LOL. Have a good time

by Kimberly Lane on May 3rd, 2007 at 8:39 pm

  26. ah the beach, wish I was there

by trish on May 3rd, 2007 at 8:57 pm

  27. I’ll spend my time in the country and go camping. Especially right now when all the spring wildflowers are in bloom and more are starting to bloom! I think it is fun to walk different trails and areas that I have never been before…it allows me a chance to get off the beaten path of life!

by Kathleen on May 3rd, 2007 at 9:15 pm

  28. I dont care for the beach any longer - I used to go all the time when I was much younger - cant tolerate the heat or sand.

Like moderate spring or fall weather to just walk around and see sites, stop in shops. Like Kathleen mentioned, it is wonderful to see all the colorful flowers in bloom.

by Pat L. on May 4th, 2007 at 7:29 am

  29. Oh, I love your pictures! If I’m anything, it would be a beach bum. Give me a tropical setting anyday. I also love the mountains though. Also, I’ve always wanted to travel to Ireland and Scotland. The scenery and the history there seem so captivating to me.

by Zara on May 4th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

  30. Thank you all for visiting! I loved reading the comments. Glad you like the pictures…and I love hearing about the places you all enjoy.
