I’ve been anguishing over book titles lately — specifically, the titles for the two books I’m currently writing for Silhouette Romantic Suspense. I want the titles to sound sexy and intriguing — just like my super hot heroes. The editors want the titles to reflect both the suspense and the romance.
So here’s the premise of the first book: A reformed safecracker/thief is forced to team up with his former lover, the antiquities expert who once betrayed him, to recover an ancient necklace before he gets blamed for the theft. He needs to find the necklace, prove his innocence, and restore his honor — while bringing down the bad guys who framed him. Of course, he has to trust the heroine to do it. And by the end of the story, he learns what honor really means.
So I’ve been trying to think of “hot words” that would describe this book: seduce, trust, revenge, honor, thief, forbidden…. the problem is getting the romance in there. And it’s a pretty hot book, so I want it to sound sexy and dangerous, as well as romantic. My list so far is:
Seduced by a Thief
Seducing the Thief
Hot Like a Thief
One Hot Thief
The Thief’s Revenge
The Thief’s Seduction
To Seduce a Thief
But I’m not sure I like any of those titles. Nothing really jumps out at me, anyway. So I’m looking for suggestions. Do any of those titles appeal to you? Are there any “hot words” that make you pick up a romance book? Any titles that you really love? HELP!
And since I haven’t given away one of my backlist books for awhile, I’ll choose a winner at the end of the day from those who answer.

Okay, so none of these are any good, but they might help find one that is:
Hot Steal
Stealing Seduction
Heat and Theft
Thieving Lust
Hot Theft
Hot Property
Hope there’s something there that prompts an idea!

Bron - I love Hot Property! I’ll add it to my list. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really bring in the romance, so the editors might not go for it.

To Kiss a Thief
Taking the Thief
The Taking of the Thief
To Tryst with a Thief
Entangled with a Thief

)
Oh no, now that I’ve started thinking of a play on song names with that last one, I can’t stop. How about Stealing Sexy Back? No? I didn’t think so lol! I hope you find what you need Gail!

Thief of Hearts is a great title, but it has been used too much already. Did you know that titles can’t be copyrighted? So I could call my book War and Peace…. But if the title is too famous, or has been used recently for another similar book, the editors won’t let the author use it. I always do a search on Amazon to see what books are out there with similar names. Unfortunately, that eliminates a lot of the really good ones… and Nora Roberts has used just about every title around.

OOHHH. I like a one-word title like Seduction (or Dangerous). I don’t know if the editors would go for it, but I’ll put it on the list.
