I’ve been wondering about this. How many of you belong, or want to join up or even considered the idea? Or maybe never thought it was a good idea at all.
The upside of book clubs is you get your fav line delivered right to your doorstep usually ahead of the release date and for considerable savings. That makes it a pretty good deal right there.
Writing for Harlequin American I found out that those who subscribed to the Har Am book club got their books before I even got my author copies. Talk about fast delivery.
And for the Brava book club the savings is good and the delivery timely and I love seeing that package at my doorstep every month. A prezzie just for me.
The down side is you get all the books of the line weather you like that author or not. I used to think this was a really big downside till I started “discovering” new authors. To me this is now the biggest advantage of all to joining a book club. I’ve read authors I never would have picked up off the shelf and many of these authors have become my favorites. And we’ve even got to be good friends on line when I contact them about how much I like their work. Now that’s a really big upside.
So, what is your take on book clubs? A believer or not? And if you do belong what do you like best?
Hugs and Happy Reading!

I don’t belong to any at the moment but have been a member of several in the past. The savings were definitely a benefit and usually if you bought say 4 you then got the 5th one free for starters. The downside for me was that you had to buy so many within a certain time frame and it wasn’t always a good time money wise for me to purchase x number of books in x months.

The only book club that I have joyed is Brava’s and I love getting the delivery. I have thought of joying Harlequin’s, but I didn’t know about getting the books from different authors. You make it sound wonderful and I may have to check into it. I love to read and buy so many books that when I can get a deal a usually jump at it. Have a great day.

Dianne,
I don’t subscribe to any book clubs because I prefer to go to the book store and see all the new releases. I like too many books from different publishers to be able to choose a book club. I love a variety of books and going to the store to pick them out is very exciting. Sometimes, I can hardly wait for my favorites to hit the shelves.

I think picking out your fav authors is always fun as is finding new authors. It’s like this gift I didn’t expect. And the savings on the books is terrific. Nothing cheap about trade-size books and the book clubs helps with that a lot.
Anyone find a new fav author from a book club?

I’ve never belonged to one, but I would depending on the club. I’m picky with what I read, but at the same time, I will try new stuff if I come across it. . . guess that doesn’t exactly make sense. LOL Anyway, it depends on the club. The Harelquins I do look at once in a while, especially since I don’t always make it into a store that carries them. But I might consider it in the future once I make it into an actual new address one day. LOL

I had never read a story by Sylvia Day and I read The Stranger I Married and loved it. I will definitely pick up something else by her. I also had never read Jill Shalvis and now I love her books. I also got turned on to books by Katherine Garbera through the Brava Book Club.

Hi Dianne!
Thanks for your calendar by the way! I love it! I have it right by my computer.
Well, I have never belonged to a book club but it does sound fun. I really enjoy though going to the bookstore and spending time looking and reading all the back covers on the books. That is such a thrill for me!
Actually, just going on your Brava website all the time, is great because I find out all about your new books coming out. I have also won some books to0, which was absolutely amazing! It introduced me to new authors and now I have new favorites! Actually Dianne, I won a book of yours in the past which introduced me to you. You are an absolute favorite of mine!
Thank you so much for everything!
Hugs,
Michele

Oh, Michele, you sure made my day! Thank you!
And that you all found new authors in book clubs is terrific.
The Brava site has been fun to do and working with the Brava authors is the best.

I’ve considered it. But then I would be getting too many books by authors I didn’t really plan on reading. And on top of that I have way too many books as it is. To be getting at least 4 a month on top of all the others I buy monthly would force me out of the house!

Oh, Kristie! I know what you mean. I have so many books too and I keep buying more. Like adding more friends.
