Love Potion!

Susan Stephens

The Greek\'s Bridal Purchase (Harlequin Presents)

Okay, I confess, there are some things about writing I absolutely love-

(the 3am catching up with my work episodes, I could do without!)

So, what have we got here that makes writing a compulsion for me?

Well, let’s see now- I get to play the heroine, young and feisty, with flashing eyes and a will so strong it could move mountains, plus I get to conjure up my perfect man…

(How bad can it get?)

My ideal man is tall, broad and strong, with a dry wit and a sexy mouth.

He has to be intelligent and principled, and he has muscles to die for (if you’re a man, that is!!!)

He must have plenty of stamina- he has to to stand up to me, remember.

He’s kind to animals and old people-

Oh, yes, and I like a tan, plus I like a little chest hair- not too much- but enough to tickle when required.

I also like a shading of dark hair on those hard-muscled arms, and on his legs too.
(the legs of a kick-boxer are required for any alpha male hoping for a lead role in a Susan Stephens book!!)

Thick, dark wavy hair is an absolute prerequisite for me, as are strong white teeth… but he can’t spend longer in front of the mirror than I do.

He knows how to dress, and also how to undress…

So, come on ladies- let’s share your thoughts on the perfect man.

There’s a fab’ prize for our winner- so, please don’t be shy, just let your imagination fly!

And if you need some inspiration, look no further than darkly, dangerous Theo Savakis in my next Harlequin Presents release,

  1. The perfect man is good looking, intelligent and confident. Someone who is protective and caring. He has dark eyes, and long, thick hair to run your fingers through. He can make you shiver with just a look or a smile. He speaks in a low raspy voice. He is muscular, has big arms and shoulders, nicely shaped muscular legs and a nice firm butt. He has a hairy chest and a long line of hair on his stomach that disappears in the waistband of his jeans. He’s rough around the edges, slightly shady and very sensual.

by KimW on January 18th, 2007 at 7:12 am

  2. Okay, Kim has it down. That is my perfect man, but the hair has to be dark, and he is not outwardly caring. I like them rough, and preferably with a high-power job, I love a man in a suit! A shady background is always a plus!

by Maria Duncan on January 18th, 2007 at 10:51 am

  3. He is someone who protects his own, will do nice things once in awhile for them.
He will stand by their side no matter the situation and he can find humor in tough situations.

by RobynL on January 18th, 2007 at 11:28 am

  4. The perfect man is a rugged and determined individual whose principles always play an important part in his decisions. His looks are not classically handsome but definitely masculine and strong. He doesn’t have to be extremely macho since he is totally confident in his own skin. He can control his impulses and is loyal to his close family and friends. He also possesses the ultimate weapon, his own brand of loyalty and devotion.

by diane on January 18th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

  5. My perfect man would be someone who is rugged and has dark hair to his shoulders. He doesn’t have to be overly muscular but some muscles are a definite plus. He would also be someone who understands me and who would make me feel like I’m the most beautiful woman on earth even when I first wake up in the morning.

by Janet on January 18th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

  6. RobinL and diane has my perfect man down to a “T” :). His smile is his best feature. It’s got to be sincere, sexy and light up his eyes. He knows how to listen, understand and talk to me and makes me feel my opinions count. He maybe out worldly rugged but he’s got to have a softness underneath. He’s kind to those weaker then him, especially children and animals.

by Wanda on January 18th, 2007 at 1:11 pm

  7. My perfect man would be kind and gentlemanly to women. He would be more of a listener than a talker. He would not be afraid to share his feelings with someone he absolutely trusts. He would be masculine and rugged, not like Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp. He would do anything to keep me safe and to show that he loves me.

by Aisling on January 18th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

  8. I like a man with a great sense of humour, the wry, self-deprecating one. He would have a great smile that would make my knees go to jelly. He would have a sensitive soul and would be very easy to talk to and to be with. He would work as a writer of some sort and would be a deep thinker.

by Mary J on January 18th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

  9. He has a great sense of humor, is intelligent and witty and confident…he protects those he cares about and will do anything for them…he is loyal and faithful. He is optimistic and positive and a great listener. He never tells me I’m not good enough and he makes me believe in myself. He knows when I need him and when to leave me alone. He doesn’t mind that I read and has even been caught with a romance novel himself….he is man enough that it doesn’t bother him…he calls it research, but I think he really enjoys the stories. He is strong and tall and sexy. His hair is dark and wavy. It feels so soft when I run my finger through it. He looks great clean-shaven or with a 5 o’clock shadow…he worries about scratching my skin though so he usually shaves. He has a great smile that always reaches his eyes. Eyes that laugh and are beautiful to look at and seem to pierce your soul. His arms are strong and feel great wrapped around a person…when he pulls you against his strong, muscular chest, he makes you feel safe, protected, and loved. I am sucker for accents so he probably has some type of accent that makes me giggle and smile when he says various words because I think it is so cute…but he doesn’t let it bother him…he’ll say them again and again just to see me smile. He loves me.

Now if I could only find Mr. Perfect…or someone even close…then that would be heavenly!!!! Until then I am still dreaming and searching! Imagination is great, but reality would be even better

  10. My husband is my idea of the perfect man. Tall, dark handsome although more lean than muscular. He is a wonderful father, lover, husband and friend. Not exactly perfect but I am okay with that. If I had to imagine someone more perfect than he is, it would be someone who does not procrastinate as much and is better at planning things. Maybe a few more muscles thrown in. :-)

by Cherie Japp on January 18th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

  11. I like someone who is scarred by his past, emotionally or physically. I want to make him better. His pride would stand in the way at first but then he would give in to me as he would have fallen in love with me. Perfect!

by MD on January 18th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

  12. The perfect hero is smart, has a great sense of humor and he listens.

by Maureen on January 18th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

  13. he is smart, nice, good sense of humor and treats me like a queen

by KIM H on January 18th, 2007 at 2:59 pm

  14. Intelligent, humor, incredibly sexy for me (meaning whether they have the perfect face or the perfect body or absolutely not, they still are to me), flaws they don’t mind showing isn’t bad either. Ah, and everything else people have said too. ;)

by Lois on January 18th, 2007 at 4:55 pm

  15. The perfect man has a great sense of humor. He also has to be outgoing and one who does not hold his feelings inside. Looks are not everything but they don’t hurt. A nice head of hair to run your fingers through and great teeth are always a plus. Overall he must make you feel like you are something special to him.

by Teresa Warner on January 18th, 2007 at 5:39 pm

  16. I would have to say the perfect man is like the character Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. Ruggedly handsome, loyal, trustworthy, brave, strong, vulnerable, tender, good and in great shape..if you’ve seen him then you understand the type I mean

by Jeanette Jackson on January 18th, 2007 at 6:26 pm

  17. Not only the usual tall, dark and handsome alpha male, but thoughtful, kind and compassionate. Not to mention having a good sense of humor!

by Joyce on January 18th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

  18. Tall, with a great smile and sexy eyes. He also has to be brave, confident, kind, generous and have a great sense of humor.

by Marie on January 19th, 2007 at 2:34 am

  19. Perfect man-
nice looking, but not too handsome, ( I really dislike conceited people!),
hair color, dark with grey around the edges, slightly longer style
body type- strong, but not muscle bound, athletic, but doesn’t have to be a pro, clothes- more casual, nice & relaxed vs suits,
personality-friendly, humorous, easy going, kind, loves kids, being outdoors

by Laurie G on January 19th, 2007 at 6:07 am

  20. Ladies, I’m loving these comments- absolutely amazing!
Excuse my silence- had a nightmare nine hour trip yesterday- for those of you outside the UK we had a cyclone blowing at 100mph over the motorway system turning trucks over and blowing trees down. And where was I? On the motorway, of course!
Anyway, over that now- so keep those comments coming, and I’ll be back after the weekend to choose our winner.
    Hugs to all
    Susan

by Susan Stephens on January 19th, 2007 at 9:06 am

  21. Ok, the perfect man… tall, definitely, deep blue eyes, strong, because I like to feel small when he holds me, funny, a must have, and intelligent. My dream man is my husband, who could have guessed. ;-)

by Shannon Upright on January 19th, 2007 at 9:32 am

  22. The perfect man loves chidren and dogs. He watches chick-flicks with me and is not afraid to show his emotions. He has a slightly wicked sense of humor. And he is never cruel or hurtful.
He treats everyone with respect. He is a good provider.
and if all these things are tied up in a tall, lean, dark-haired dark-eyed package with a slight 5 o’clock shadow, all the better!

by Angie T on January 19th, 2007 at 10:35 am

  23. Yikes Susan…hope everyone is okay!

by Jennifer Y. on January 19th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

  24. Oh Susan, I heard about that on the news. How bizarre was that? I’m in Ireland and I’m really glad we missed out on it.

by Maria Duncan on January 19th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

  25. Oh Susan, I am so glad you are o.k.! That was totally so scary and freaky.

My perfect man has to be tall, at least 6 foot, absolutely built with good abs, tight butt, broad shoulders, narrow waist, dark brown wavy hair, twinkly dark, dark, brown eyes, a face that has classic bone structure, a wonderful profile to his face is also nice so I can stare at the bone structure in his jaw and cheeks. Gosh I am sounding like a plastic surgeon. Well, I have this mental picture in my mind and that is what he looks like.

He also has to be gentle with those big hands of his to caress me with. Also, a sensitive caring nature, good with children, likes the same things I like. If he doesn’t like what I like, then he is good-natured enough to please me some times and do what I like. He has to have a great sense of humor because I like to laugh alot! Also, if he has a fun, athletic side that is great too! I love to play games, cards, etc. so it would be perfect that he likes to do that also. He has to like amusement parks, dancing, walking in the park on a rainy spring day, swimming in the lake in the nude, (I actually did that once and loved it!), anything athletic, like bicycling, jogging, working out at the gym, etc. Oh, and the most important thing of all, my perfect man would not argue! These are all the qualities of my dream man.

by Michele L. on January 19th, 2007 at 11:57 pm

  26. A man with integrity and honor as well as strength and grit. His looks are striking and masculine but not movie star handsome, mainly with charm, charisma and a sincere and kind, compassionate nature. He is a trustworthy and genuine man whose sense of humor is paramount. He has fortitude and will go to any lengths to protect his family and friends. Mainly my wonderful and deep husband.

by ellie on January 20th, 2007 at 11:20 am

  27. The perfect man would be handsome, have a great body, sensitive, excellent in bed (lol), intelligent, well-to-do, a loving husband and father.

by Lisa W on January 20th, 2007 at 11:53 am

  28. My dream man would have a great sense of humor, love kids, of course good looking with a great body, grant my every wish…

by Deborah on January 20th, 2007 at 11:55 am

  29. The perfect man is anything that their partner wishes for…so all of the above suggestions from the ladies is my perfect man.

by Shuck Ying on January 20th, 2007 at 11:56 am

  30. This is the best discussion we’ve had. I’m absolutely drooling over your men. You girls really know how to choose that man! I’m impressed.
This is so exciting I’m going to print out all your replies and study them- and there’s still time to take part- so keep these comments coming…

And here’s a sneak scoop- I’m raising a new web site soon with even more contests- so keep tuned (the site would be up now if Susan Stephens /moi could just get herself organised and get that info to her fab’ web mistress- but that’s another story!!!) Looking forward to welcoming you all there.

***Will choose a winner for this contest late Sunday UK time -

Good luck everyone, and once again, thank you all for taking part- you’re the best

  31. My perfect man wouldn’t be perfect.

by Susan on January 20th, 2007 at 1:00 pm

  32. The perfect man for me can be ruggedly handsome but not a too hairy, muscle bound, pretty boy. He’s strong enough that I feel protected, cared for and loved but not smothered. He has a deep sense of responsibility and honor. He’s a great provider (doesn’t have to be rich, but I won’t complain if he is). He is a kind, wonderful and loving friend, son, father, husband and lover. He takes care of those he cares for. He loves children and animals (especially my cats =^..^=). He’s gentle and has a sensitive side and is not afraid to show it because he’s secure in his masculinity. He has a great sense of humor to be able to laugh at himself. He has a sexy, melting smile that reaches his eyes. He knows how to listen and allows others to have opinions without criticism and treats me with respect. He sensitive to my moods and knows how to make me feel special. He makes me feel beautiful even though I’m not. He let’s me read without criticism. He likes to stay home and spend time together (even if it’s just reading :D ) but he also likes to take me dancing. He would have to know how to cook, because I’m not very good at it. He wouldn’t complain about helping with the housework and picks up after himself. (If anybody knows anybody like that send him my way!!! :D )
