Starstruck

Lauren Willig

A few weeks ago, our own Access Romance Interview Team stumped me with one of their hard-hitting questions. No, it wasn’t that perennial favorite, “Where do you get your ideas?” It wasn’t even “Why do I always have fewer socks when I empty the dryer than I had to start with?” (I can give you than answer to that one. It’s simple. Sock goblins. They live in dryers and eat socks. It’s a fact). The question that sent me stuttering and staring off into space was, “Which of your books do you most see as a movie, and who would you cast as the characters?”

I’m awful at picking actors. My means of identification generally consists of cross-referencing other movies, as in, “You know, the woman who played the duchess in the third Hornblower– no, not the real duchess, the fake duchess.” This tends to turn into a rather circular exercise, especially when the person I’m talking to hasn’t seen the same movies.

So I appeal to those more cinematically savvy. Which of your favorite books would you like to see turned into a movie? And who would you cast?

  1. I’d turn my own Inferno into a movie. Angelina Jolie used to be my pick for Kat, but she’s gotten too soft….so my new choice is from my favorite show Battlestar Galactica. Katee Sackhoff (who plays Starbuck) would be Kat, Vin Diesel would be Hades.

I’d like to see Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden series turned into a TV series…and Milla Jovovich would be the star.

  2. Hi Lauren!
I’ve seen the Hornblower series and just loved it. As for what book I would like to see made into a movie-I’m not sure. Maybe the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I don’t know if I really like my favorite books being made into movies though because I like being able to use my imagination when I read. If you put a character with a face, it may take away some of the mystery. Although, the Harry Potter books were very good and I just love the movies as well. I’ve read your book “The History of the Pink Carnation” and just loved it.

  3. I’m not a writer but I hate this question too because I can never think of anyone! Or, I list Sean Connery for everything. lOL :)
