I Adore Halloween

Denise A Agnew

Plain and simple, I adore Halloween. Always have. As a grade school student, I loved to dress up Halloween day and participate in the parade of costumes around the school. (Do they do that anywhere anymore?) Trick or treat was so much fun, and so was consuming all the candy. These days I celebrate Halloween with dim lighting (usually spooky candles), a heaping bowl of popcorn, and several spooky movies.

I’m one of those somewhat rare females who enjoys thrillers/action adventure and horror flicks as much as chick flicks. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a collection of chick flicks, but give me a steady dose of movies like SPEED, BRAVEHEART, and the occasional foray into THE SHINING and DOG SOLDIERS and I’m a happy camper. We live in a neighborhood without children, so my indulgences into movie land on Halloween night aren’t interrupted by the doorbell ringing.

So, it stands to reason that I love to write novels of spine tingling romance, sex, and danger. When I wrote my vampire trilogy DEEP IS THE NIGHT, I wanted to scare the beejeebers out of my readers, plus thrill them with steaming hot romance. Step into my parlor and let me give you a taste of things that go bump in the night…

Some towns are quaint. Some towns are old. Pine Forest is quaint, old, and the most haunted place on earth. But now more than ghosts prowl the night. Someone or something is attacking women and draining their blood. Three sexy, special couples encounter dark, dangerous love and discover that sometimes there are more things in heaven and earth….

Dark Fire (book 1)
Whispers, secrets, and tales of ghosts abound in Pine Forest, but new librarian Erin Greenway doesn’t believe in goblins. Yet the Victorian monstrosity she works in creaks and groans and speaks of horrible secrets she cannot deny. When Scot Lachlan Tavish claims to be chasing a thousand year old vampire, his dark, dangerous looks make her wonder if he’s the hunter…or the hunted.

Night Watch (book 2)
The Ancient One still prowls the earth, ready to finish what he started. Pine Forest hasn’t seen anything yet. Micky Gunn arrives in Pine Forest hoping she’s left behind the Shadow People who have haunted her all her life. Yet from the first day she arrives in town, it’s clear they’ve followed her and that something sinister lurks deep within the tunnels under her uncle’s old inn. Police detective Jared Thorne doesn’t believe in the supernatural, but when he discovers gutsy Micky is in danger, he’ll keep her close and fight the Ancient One determined to take Micky from him forever.

Haunted Souls (book 3)
As Halloween approaches friends will band together to defeat an evil more potent than anything they could have imagined. Clarissa Gaines remembers Pine Forest as a sedate, creepy little town of her childhood. Determined to add Pine Forest to her book of haunted places, she wanders the night in search of the supernatural. Vampire Ronan Kieran has fought the ancient one and knows he must make a mortal woman fall in love with him in order to defeat the world’s oldest vampire. While necessity and overwhelming desire bring Ronan and Clarissa together, she fears the powerful emotions she is starting to feel for him. And Ronan finds he will do anything to protect her, do anything to make her his as a battle between good and evil rages around them.

You can find these three novels at Ellora’s Cave www.ellorascave.com in download and trade paperback.

If you like your romance with a paranormal/thrill twist, what is it that you like and why?

  3. Danger is a strong aphrodisiac. I mean it gets your blood pumping, and adrenaline rushing through your veins. I love it.

  4. Denise,
I love vampires, werewolves and all things that go bump in the night. One of my favorite scary movies is “Jeepers Creepers”. Have you seen that one? This is my favorite time of year. I just recently came back from New Jersey and I enjoyed seeing all the leaves change colors. I have your books Dark Fire and Haunted Souls. I need to get the second one so I haven’t started the series yet. I think I’m going to try and get it this week so I can read them for Halloween. I can’t wait to start them because I know I won’t be able to put them down. I hope you have a great Halloween!

  5. Oh Janet, I thought Jeepers Creepers was fantastic until the ending…but the premise and the beginning…holy hannah! Scared the bejesus out of me!

Hmm, I have the urge to watch a whole bunch of scary movies now…

  6. Hey Amy, sorry it took so long to reply to the blog today. I was out of town and chauffering around a friend for a couple of days and I’m just now making it to the blog. :) Thanks so much for reading Night Watch, and I hope you enjoy HAUNTED SOULS. I have to admit that the hero of HAUNTED SOULS, Ronan Kieran, is one of my very favorite heroes. I’m so glad you love the trilogy. Music to my ears!!

  7. Estell and Vivi Anna,

I totally agree about the danger element. It can really heighten the senses in more than one way, especially when it comes to romance!

  10. I really enjoy magical tales, some suspense, and lots and lots of romance. Paranormal stories just make for great fantasy material. Loved Dark Fire and Night Watch. Haven’t got to Haunted Souls yet.

  11. I enjoy scary movies too. But it’s not very fun when your best friend hits you on the arm or leg everytime something freaks her out. lol

Anyways, I know I’m a bit late in saying this, but… Happy Halloween everyone.
