…and other pleasant surprises.
I LOVE it when people surprise me–be that real people or characters in books.
Take for instance my hubby, who after holding strong in his anti-Renaissance Garb stance for nine long years, this weekend went hog wild and dressed himself head-to-toe in Festival gear! For those who don’t know, I am a costume FANATIC! To have my husband (the original Mr. Serious) kicking up his heels at Renaissance Festival with me…dressed up…I’m in heaven :) It was a wonderful surprise.

Why did he do it? He loves me :) *Happy sigh.*
I love it when a hero in a book does something TOTALLY out of character for the woman he adores. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for hard-edged Alpha heroes. They’re uber sexy. But when an Alpha does something super-sweet for the woman he loves, I just melt.
Anyone have a favorite scene from a book, where the hero did something that made you go all soft and girly? Or a real life example of something extra-special or completely out of character a man did for you? Share! Please! I’d love to hear.
Here’s a bit of incentive–I’ll randomly draw a name from those who respond. The winner will receive a download of one of my ebooks, winner’s choice. Good luck!

Oh yes Tawny, is a costume fanatic. She got the most beautiful costumes for the RT in Daytona!
I have to think about a favorite scene, so I will be back later

I can’t think of anything from a book but, recently my husband sent me a dozen roses in a vase for no other reason than he loves me. OK, he’s done that before but hasn’t done it in a long time. The next night he takes me out to an expensive dinner. The next day I receive a bouquet of candy a nice one, I seen the receipt for it before I got it. LOL I didn’t think anything about it. I thought it was for the roses. That is how much it cost. Any way the next few days are the weekend plus a holiday for him so he is home. But when he goes back to work what do I get but another basket brought to the door. And in the mail I get a certificate for a manicure and a pedicure. That was a short week for him. I’m not sure what my husband is leading up to, it may be nothing or ??? maybe another cruise. It may be just because he loves me and no planes to go with it but I am feeling pampered right now. He is one special man!

Katie’s Art of Seduction by NJ Walters has a scene in which the hero creates a very moving artistic masterpiece. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it for someone else. But I thought that it was incredibly romanctic and it really made me melt.

I can’t think of anything from a book. My wedding ring is a plain gold band—for our 10th anniversary, my husband gave me a yellow topaz(my birthstone) and diamond ring. My kids added a guard ring with their birthstones. Talk about surprised! My husband just doesn’t do things like that!

Oh for me this would be a scene in Jory Strong’s book SPIRIT FLIGHT from EC. Marisa in this scene had fell down a ways on the clift and was battered and bruised. Ukiah as a shapeshifting Thunderbird, goes and takes her off the cliff and brings her to his home. He carries her to the cavern to the heated water where he heals her. It really showed this hero’s love and tenderness for her.

I like this paragraph from The Empress’ New Clothes:
Two very short warriors with extremely engorged breasts were alighting from a conveyance that looked to be operated by Death and Glok of Pika’s fame. The beautiful warriors were bounding toward them even now, arms outstretched, tears coursing down their cheeks.
“Kyra,” Zor murmured. “Kyra.”
Running the rest of the way to meet her, Zor took off and sped in the direction of his nee’ka. He grabbed her when he caught her, fearful to ever let go again, and swung her up into his embrace as he clutched her to his chest.

Wow! That was really sweet of your hubby! My hubby is always doing sweet things for me like bringing me home flowers once in awhile just because he loves me. Last year he took me for a romantic weekend to a bed and breakfast in St. Petersburg to celebrate our anniversary even th0ugh bed and breakfasts are not his thing. Guess we are both blessed to have such loving husbands.

Great costume!
My husband has been great about my monthly “writing” day — the day I leave home at 8:30AM and have breakfast with writing buddies, then have my RWA meeting, gab for a while afterward and get back home about 5:00PM. He doesn’t plan any kind of couples activity for those Saturdays. And the day I heard from a magazine editor that they were buying a short story but needed the revisions by the next day, he left me to my revisions all night in my office and even stopped on the way home to buy something for dinner.
That’s love.

You guys look so authentic!!
Let’s see, I recently read Merline Lovelace’s book “The Middle Sin” in it towards the end Jack Donaldson drops his OSI work to run out to the airport to accompany Cleo North when she fears for her father’s life and flies to her father’s home. This is so out of character for him!!
