Boomer X
I received my AARP card a couple of weeks ago. For those who don’t recognize the acronym it stands for American Association of Retired Persons. It’s a large organization with 35 million members all over the world (yes, you don’t have to be a US citizen to join). I learned that you can become a member if you’re fifty or older and that you don’t have to be retired to join (whew, that’s a relief).
It’s an outstanding achievement in my life considering my mother received her AARP card about ten years ago (they were catching people in their mid-late forties then). The card has changed my life in some ways. I am now checking my mailbox wondering if I’ll soon receive Modern Maturity or My Generation. I converse easily about the plight of the “sandwich generation”–taking care of elderly parents while dealing with offspring returning to the nest. Music of the sixties and seventies bring back moments of nostalgia.
Okay, okay. All joking aside. Someone goofed and put me in the wrong age group. (Not that I mind. Flashing my AARP card has created some wonderful moments). I will have to find out why this error has been made, but it’s possible that by the time I get this situation cleared it won’t matter anymore.
My question is, have you ever been mistaken for someone or something you’re not? What did you do?
