So, today is my birthday. I’m always vaguely surprised when this day comes around every year. I know that makes me sound like an airhead, but truthfully, I don’t really celebrate my birthday much anymore. I mean, I like the date — August 19th will always be special to me, more than just another day of the year. But sometime after I turned thirty I just stopped thinking about my actual birthday. Frankly, it wasn’t much fun to keep counting the passing years.
Except that I do look at my horoscope occasionally. I mean, I’m not really sure that our birthday or the alignment of the stars and planets could possibly influence anything in our lives — particularly our personality. It seems highly unlikely, although some of the Leo description seems to fit me, it’s true. But the daily predictions in the newspapers have to be totally bogus, right? Although it is awfully hard to resist taking a peek at what they say.
Most of the time, though, I don’t think about my horoscope. And I don’t use horoscopes when I create characters for my books, even though I know that some writers do. I tend to go with the Myers-Briggs personality profiles for my characters, probably because my own type (INFJ) describes me so perfectly. If it works for me, it must work for my characters, too.
So what about you? Do you believe in horoscopes? Do you read yours every day? Do you know of any good (free) internet sites where you can have your charts drawn up? Do you ever wonder what sign the characters in a novel are?
And while I’m waiting for your answers, I’m going to think about that carrot cake my mom is baking for my birthday. Now THAT’S something worth looking forward to every year.

Happy Birthday! Hope your day is wonderful. My daughter also picks carrot cake for her birthday every year. I don’t read horoscopes although I know some people enjoy them.

Happy Birthday, Gail! My birthday was August 11. I’m a Leo and the description fits me too. I just had my chart done by an author but I haven’t looked at it yet. Probably will today. I don’t believe in the horrorscopes *g* in magazines. But, sometimes the ones from Internet sites freak me out.

I don’t read my horoscope generally, though it is fun to look when the thought strikes me.

Happy Birthday!
I don’t read my horoscope anymore. But I’m a sagittarius and I do seem to “fit” the sagittarian mold.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! So far all I’ve done is clean the house but I’m sure the day will improve. It’s interesting how few people believe in horoscopes and yet, nearly all the newspapers carry them. Maybe because deep down we DO believe them — or think that they might sometimes be true? That reminds me, I haven’t checked mine yet today….

Happy Birthday! My mom’s birthday was the other day and she got carrot cake too.
I am a Sagitarrius (sp?). I will read my horoscope occasionally for fun, but I know nothing about astrology.

Happy Birthday, Gail!
What is the point in a horoscope. I don’t think I have ever read one for me that was accurate.

Happy birthday! I hope it’s a wonderful day and you do something special. I love birthdays, and I think it’s not the age but the celebration of life (with cake and presents!) that’s the best part LOL.
I’m a Libra, and I enjoy reading about my sign, but like a lot of people, I really don’t take it too seriously. I believe people are more complex than that, but I do think they can be fun. I read my horoscope occasionally, but it’s not something I take to heart.

YaY! Happy Birthday Gail :) :) Mines is August 29th :) :)
Yes I do believe in horoscopes. Alot of mines was so true. And I do read it everyday. I actually read mines through Netscape. I will look for some sites and let you know about them
Actually I do wonder what signs the characters are in a novel. I like getting to know more about a character when I am reading a book on them. I think that would be a very good idea :)
Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To You,
Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday Gail,
Happy Birthday To You.
Hope you got all that you wish for and more.
Btw, your books look good. Love the covers :)
Hugssss

Thanks so much again for the birthday wishes! I did have a really nice evening. I ate TWO pieces of carrot cake, which was excessive but delicious. And Linda, thanks for the song:)))) When we lived in the Bahamas, they used to add a second verse to that song - We love you we do, We love you we do, We love you dear XX, Happy Birthday to you!

Belated birthday wishes! I rarely read my horoscope..capricorn( January). But, the sign’s descriptions ( of the people’s character atributes) seems to fit an awful lot of people that I know!
Hope you enjoyed your cake!

Happy Birthday!
Had mine earlier this month, so we share an astrological sign. I can recognize some Leo traits in myself (like the hair lol). But I think horoscopes are always vague enough that you can find something fitting for yourself, or read them like they fit.
I rarely read mine, and I never think about what sign book characters are, unless it comes up in the story.
So not a true believer, but if people can find some good guidance and self-knowledge through horoscopes, go for it.
