Going Too Far?
If you haven’t heard about it already, you’ve been missing out on a hilarious read. I haven’t yet decided if it’s even real, or some truly outrageous promotional gimmick, but regardless, this woman’s antics are indeed outrageous.
Who am I talking about? Why Emily, of course.
That Girl Emily is the blog of a woman allegedly scorned by her cheating husband. Worse, he supposedly cheated on her with her best friend! And Emily is out for revenge in a big way. In fact, she’s promised fourteen days of getting even and so far, man, has she ever kept her promise.
First she put up a billboard near his office announcing she was on to the cheating bastard. If that wasn’t enough, she paid for it out of their joint checking account. But Emily wasn’t done with a billboard alerting the world to Steven’s infidelity. She then drove around their neighborhood and gave away bottles of wine from his wine collection. She’s also done things like baked brownies with a laxative and sent them to Steven at work with a note indicating they were from the mistress. She’s posted about packing up his porn collection and sending it to his parents. Her latest method of revenge was to use his credit card to send roses to all the women (and a few men) in his office, with a sleazy note attached.
These are just a few of her antics. But the one that stopped me and had me wondering if she’d gone too far was when she vandalized his car.

I’m curious to see what Emily will come up with next. Spray painting HOPE SHE WAS WORTH IT on a brand new BMW 530i to me definitely qualifies as a bit over the top.
Whether or not Emily’s antics are real or some crazy promotional gimmick, has she gone too far? If this is some promo stunt, is it for a book? A movie? I don’t think it matters too much, because Emily has indeed stepped over the line. If it is real, we can’t not think about the the legal ramifications of what she’s done because vandalism is a criminal act, and there are all those credit card charges she could be forced to pay. I think she could use a few classes on anger management, but on the other hand, I can sympathize with her. The man cheated on her with her best friend, and she has the video to prove it. But if Emily is indeed a fictional character, has she become an unheroic heroine?
Part of me says yes. Revenge may be sweet, and in this case rather funny, in a twisted sort of way, but it’s also a fine line to walk in fiction. I’ll keep reading That Girl Emily because I’m curious to see how, or if, Emily can redeem herself. There is, after all, the bad Karma she’s no doubt stirring up that can come back to bite her in the butt, too.
My question is, can you relate to Emily as a heroine? Do you think she’s a real woman scorned or a fictional one?
