Quirky Movies and The Writer
I’m a rare breed. The writer who loves action flicks and as much as I do chick flicks. And while I love a good drama as much as the next, and my movie collection holds action favorites like SPEED, I also have some personal quirky favorites that have firmly latched onto my heart.
Below I’ve listed some other personal quirky favorites and the reason why the call to the romance author in me.
Elizabethtown (Kirstin Dunst, Orlando Bloom). Several themes run through this comedy/romance/drama. Family, living life to the fullest, failure, love, death, and romance. This movie captured my heart, especially the unique romance between Orlando and Kirstin’s characters. I found myself tearful several times during this movie, especially during the end. I won’t say why as I don’t want to spoil the end of the movie for anyone.
IQ–Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins make the perfect mismatched couple in this funny romantic comedy with Walter Matthau as a hysterical Albert Einstein. The theme of love conquering all is fabulous.
10 Things I Hate About You—Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles before anyone (in the U.S. any way) knew him. A teen movie but not a teen movie. Intelligent and funny, with excellent performances from the entire cast. A take of Taming of the Shrew.
The Very Thought Of You—This movie is definitely for Joseph Fiennes fans. America meets England in this bizarre and very creative romantic comedy with some serious sexual tension moments.
Mrs. Winterbourne—Ricky Lake and Brendan Fraser mix for another unique romance sure to win your heart and make you laugh.
Bridget Jones’ Diary and Bridget Jones’ Diary: The Edge of Reason – I totally understand this girl. When I was a teen and in my twenties I sometimes felt like her minus the extreme smoking and drinking. I love the theme of happily ever after for the oddball.
The Matchmaker—Janeane Garofalo and David O’Hara are screamin’ good fun as an American woman and an Irish man who meet and fall in love with the help of matchmakers, even though they don’t want to love each other. Irreverent and a good time.
Under The Tuscan Sun—Diane Lane is brilliant in this drama/comedy that isn’t really a romance, but is about love and most of all, finding your place in the world. I adored this movie.
