UPDATE: The winner is Shawn Monique.
No one would ever guess this by reading my blog, my posts here, or my emails to any groups I belong to, but I am an introvert. I can yammer on endlessly, embracing the anonymity of the internet, but in real life? I’m the person who smiles thoughtfully through conversations. In large crowds, I’m the one who is the wallflower, nodding politely with very little to say . . .
Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but I am definitely never the life of any party. One-on-one is better, but I don’t like being the center of attention - which is why booksignings are so difficult for me. I know that as much as booksignings give readers a chance to meet favorite authors, they also give authors a chance to meet booksellers who will be hand-selling them long after the signing is done.
Knowing all that doesn’t make it any easier to sit behind a table of books I’ve written doing a virtual, “Look at me! Look at me!” It’s just not in my DNA, and it drives my husband bonkers . . . which is why I’ve LURVED the RWA Literacy Signings in which I’ve participated during previous years. (Of course, I heard last year that Sherrilyn Kenyon’s line eclipsed most of what would have been the Alison Kent area, so can’t say I’m sorry I missed that, LOL!)
Group signings are the best! Not only do they bring in more readers, authors have someone to talk to when no one else is around! RWA has posted the list of authors who will be participating this year in their Literacy Signing, and again it’s going to be an awesome event. It can take the full three hours allotted for the signing to make the rounds of the room. The energy is amazing. Such a buzz.
Have any of you been to any of the RWA Literacy Signings? What about other signings? Share your stories! Who have you driven the farthest distance to see? How long have you stood in line to meet a favorite author? What book are you still dying to get your hands on?
On Wednesday the 28th at 6:00 p.m. central, I’ll draw one name from those of you who have commented to win. And what will you win? Any book written by the author you would most like to meet in person! (The book has to be available at either Amazon or B&N and can’t cost more than $25.)

I have never been able to go to any booksignings. It is rare that any authors appear in our immediate area so I would need to travel a bit. Taking a day to do this would require a bit of juggling and then I would likely have nothing to say to their face. It is so much nicer to see what an author has to say on the internet at a site like this at my leisure.

I have never been to any booksignings. The closest bookstore is 2 hours away. The one time they had a signing, I couldn’t go. I would love to be able to go to a booksigning.

So far I have been to three booksignings. The first one was with Diana Gabaldon, when she was on research tour here in Germany. The second one was in Tampa, Florida where I met Katherine Garbera, Jeanie London, Roxanne St. Claire, Julie Leto, Ann Jacobs. That was so much fun. The third and most impressive booksigning was the book fair at the RT last month. That was really an overwhelming situation and I forgot to get some books that I really wanted. The lesson I learned is to take a list with me, of all the books that I want to get. Alltogether was the RT with 7500 km the farthest away booksigning but it was worth the ten hours flight. That was the best week in my life.

I have never been to any booksignings. I have never lived near enough to any that I knew of in time to go. I was going to go to the one a the RT conv but it did not happen. There are many books I am dying to get my hands on, some being the 4 that are in Sherrilyn Kenyons backlist that are out of print. Also there are a couple in different series that i am missing.

Good morning.
I have been fortunate enuf to meet Suzanne Brockmann, Nora Roberts, James Patterson and Stephanie Mittman who were all great.
They had a big author thing a few years ago in NYC but it is very hard for me to get time off from work so unfortunatle I missed that great affair.
One book I would like to have is Megan Hart’s Love Match; dont know if it still available in print; but that one comes to mind.

I’ve been to a few book signings. I especially enjoy when our local library has a book signing. The author discusses his/her book, answers questions, then signs books. It’s great because you really get to learn more about the author and their works. I’ve been to signings for:
Dorothea Benton Frank
Nicholas Sparks
Tamar Myers
R.L. Stine
I’d like to go to a signing for either Joanne Fluke, Laura Childs, or Kelsey Roberts, but they normally do not travel to where I live.

I’ve never been to a book signing either. My son, Luke is a big Tim Dorsey fan and I found out, after the fact, that he was at the B&N in our area. The local library also had a “Bookmania” event BUT it didn’t have any “ROMANCE” authors instead it had Stephen Frye, that Scarborough guy from Scarborough Country and some MD types. I do have a Dan Jansen (Olympic speed skater) autoghraphed book ,but, my sister in Milwaukee got that for me.
I’d drive to meet you Alison. I love your books.
I’d love to meet Heather Graham. I’ve followed her books since the mid 80’s!!

I have so many books on my wish list its not funny. Captive Of My Desires by Johanna Lindsey & Forbidden Pleasures by Bertrice Small both out this month. That is just a couple.

I’ve attended a few RWA Literacy signings - great fun. Most times I force my little (not so little, really) introverted self to go up to an author I love and am thrilled when I like her. One of the coolest authors was Suzanne Brockmann - didn’t even mind standing in a long line. She’s enthusiastic and very charming.
Now, a few times I’ve met an author and been stunned by how uncomfortable the author seemed - like, in a “gee, I wonder how much medication this poor person needed to take in order to come out and sit her - and maybe it wasn’t enough” kind of way. I sympathize with these ladies. I’m an introvert, too. I’ll be on the other side of the table at this year’s signing and hope not to scare the beejesus out of any unsuspecting readers.
Notice how I’m ignoring the fact my name is spelled incorrectly on the RWA list you linked to…

I love booksignings and go as often as I can, generally limited to the Columbus and Cincinnati areas. I have met Cherry Adair at a booksigning and would love to be able to spend more time chatting with her, she was an absolute blast. Of course, at the top of my list and no, I’m not trying to suck up as I’ve said it many times before, is Alison Kent!!
Everyone have a terrific weekend!

I would love to meet Sandra Brown in person and want her book ‘A Secret Splendor’. After reading her Texas Trilogy series I fell in love with them(Texas Sage, Texas Lucky and Texas Chase).
I have never been to an author signing or convention, unfortunately. I would have to fly many miles(thousands) or drive for 6 hours at the least. Maybe some day!!!!

I have been to numerous booksignings. Seems OHIO is romance author heaven. Have met Dianne Castell, Lori Foster, LuAnn McLane, Jenny Crusie, Erin McCarthy the list goes on and on. I have gone to Nora Roberts and Suz Brockmanns signing. Such huge turnouts.
I would love to met Linda Howard and Alison Kent. Two biggie favs for me.

Living in a rural area with the nearest bookstore and a small one at that, a good 50 miles away, I have never been to any book signings. I’m very shy so I don’t know if I would have it in me to go to a book signing anyway.:(

Hi Judy F. - yes I always see lots of book signings in the state of Ohio. Lucky lady.
Anyway, I have never been to a signing; would love to see many different authors. My list is so long. LOL.
Suzanne Forster’s Tease looks v.g. - would love to win that one. Her books are so hot!

I have never been to any booksignings either. They are usually too far away and the few times there have been any close by they have been inconvenient and I could not go. I would love to go to one for Mercedes Lackey, Chrisitne Feehan, Robin Owens, Catherine Asaro or Gena Showalter. I am sure there are other authors that I would add to that list if I could think of them but the brain is fuzzy this morning and there are so many great authors out there.

I have neve been to one of these big signings, but since I live near Atlanta I plan on going this year. I am a bit nervous about meeting some of my favorite authors. There are so many that I want to meet that I know that I am probably going to be a bit overwhelmed when I get there…LOL. I have talked to many of my favorite authors online through chats, groups, blogs, and e-mails…but that is a lot different than meeting them face to face.
I have a long list of authors that I would like to meet and books on my wishlist…LOL…I am hoping to get some at the signing. I would love to meet Julia Quinn…I am dying to get her latest “On the Way to the Wedding” or Erin McCarthy and get her anthology with Lori Foster and Amy Garvey, “Bad Boys of Summer”

I have so far been unable to attend any book signing–one thing or another have gotten in the way *grrrrr* The one I really REALLY wanted to attend this year was the RWA signing in Atlanta–and again, can’t. There’s always next year, though.
Good luck to all the introverted ladies going!

Such are the disadvatages of rural country living…the closest author signings are always at least 100 miles from me in the ATL! And no one in my immediate circle enjoys that kind of thing
So as much as I would love to meet some of my favorite authors, I am too much of an introvert to attend alone. And no one ever comes to Columbus, GA wich is only about 35 miles from me. Those I would attend!

I’ve been to about 3 book signings here in WNY. One surprise I had was a few years ago when I was just getting into reading romance and I heard of Suzanne Brockmann but had not read her yet. A reader told me she would be in my area, so I did some searches and found out about her Seals books and then I went to meet her and was so scared! I didn’t know what to say. Im deaf so I figured my husband would interpret for me. So I turned to him for help and Suzanne tapped me on the shoulder and then started signing to me!!!! I had no idea she could sign, nor did I know she had a deaf son as well. Then I told her first time i’m reading her books and all. There’s this long line and I hated holding it up, but we didn’t want to stop chatting. We have since chatted online frequently. So I was all froze up but the author warmed me right up to chat with her!

I would love to go to a booksigning, but I’ve never been to one. I don’t think they have very many in my area and the ones that I’ve heard about are either a bit of a drive or I miss them for some reason. I’m a bit shy too so I don’t know how the authors do it!
I’d love to meet so many authors! On top of my list is Linda Howard. Does she even do booksignings anymore? Lori Foster, Alison Kent, Erin McCarthy, Cherry Adair and Tara Janzen are some of the other authors that I’d love to meet!

Alison, I am the exact same way - totally introverted. The on-line thing is a little deceptive cuz I’m really chatty on the internet, but not so much in person. I can totally relate to your thoughts on that.
I have been to a few and have met faves like Diana Gabaldon (my first ever signing!) and Suzanne Brockmann, whom I adore.
The farthest I’ve gone is to Ohio to Lori Foster’s reader/writer get-together: 5 hours from Chicago. A lot of fabulous authors were there and I saw lots of my on-line friends.
This year I’m going to RWA and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s like a reader’s idea of heaven. I would have loved to have gone to RT, but there was a work conflict. Maybe next year…. But hey, if you’re going to RWA, I look forward to meeting you.

I would love to go to a booksigning by Nicholas Sparks. First of all, he’s not hard on the eyes.
Secondly, I love his writing, and I’ve missed out on a lot of great books because my discretionary income has disappeared since I’m not working anymore.
-
I haven’t been to a booksigning, but I would love to go. The closest one ever to me is in New Bern and is Nicholas Sparks who lives there and I think I may try and go to his next one. I have a goal to go to one of the RWA signings in the future. I just love the idea of all of those authors in one place, meeting new-to-me authors and trying their books.

>Have any of you been to any of the RWA Literacy Signings?
Yep, one, before I was pubbed.
> What about other signings?
A couple. I just don’t care THAT much about meeting authors. I like their books, I like to visit their blogs, but sometimes, meeting them changes my vision of their books. Okay, dorky, I know, but still true.
I’ve only signed once myself. I guess people feel the same way about me because no one wants to believe I write my books…

I drove two hours to see Robin Schone years ago at a B & N store. I was a nervous wreck and couldn’t think of anything to say. She asked me questions about her books and my mind was blank. Couldn’t remember anything about them. haha! Last year I went to a local AuthorFest and the same thing happened. I’m not necessarily a quiet person but for some reason I can’t chat in person with authors.
I’d like to meet Jennifer Cruise. I love her stories and she seems like such a fun person.

I’ve been to two RT booksignings. Both were so much fun! The first was in New York. I won a huge treasure chest and my friend won a basket. You should have seen us carrying these huge prizes through Grand Central Station!
The second was in Daytona and I took my Mom. She enjoyed herself immensely. And, she told me it took us three hours just to get to the G row ’cause I knew everyone. lol! At the New York signing I met Kathryn Caskie in the bathroom and Heather Graham while I was outside smoking a cigarette. *g* There isn’t an author I don’t want to meet!

I attended last year’s RWA signing, and it was a lot of fun. Usually I get nervous thinking of something to say to the author, but in this case, there were so many authors to see that I didn’t really get anxious about it.
Probably the furthest I’ve traveled for a signing is from Utah to Florida to meet Suzanne Brockmann. It helped that the signing was in January, so going to Florida at that time of year sounded great.
The author I’d most like to meet these days is Kelley Armstrong. The woman is brilliant.

I have never been to a booksigning or conference either; would love to, but dont think it is in the cards for me as I am an elderly lady. My daughter passes books along to me and it is hard to pick a favorite.
