AR Fun

It’s time for another AR Fun giveaway, this time with a supersized prize!

Leave a comment for a chance to win three surprise books from our authors plus some fabulous goodies!

Update: The giveaway winner was Nicole. Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who participated!

  1. I haven’t had a chance to read any of them yet. I always read books that I can afford (I’m still living on a student’s budget) and which seem interesting. It doesn’t affect to my reading habits one way or another if a book finaled in or won a RITA or didn’t.

by Minna on June 17th, 2006 at 6:59 am

  2. I’ve read the following:

The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
    Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
The Naked Truth About Guys by Alesia Holliday
The Rich Stranger, Rugged Loner, Ruthless Groom by Bronwyn Jameson
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
His Secondhand Wife by Cheryl St. John
    Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts
Table for Five by Susan Wiggs

I haven’t bought a book just because it was nominated for a RITA. One reason is that I ususally buy a book when it first comes out and another reason is that just because a book is nominated for an award doesn’t mean that I will necessarily enjoy it.

by Maureen on June 17th, 2006 at 7:09 am

  3. I’ve read two on the list although another two are in my TBR pile. I never buy a book just because it won an award. Either the back blurb and/or excerpts have to interest me or it has to be written by an author I know I will enjoy based on their previous work.

by Cheryl S. on June 17th, 2006 at 7:13 am

  4. Good Morning. I love this question. I love contemps and have read several on the list - they are:

    You’ve Got Male
    Picket Fence
Crazy Kind of Love - Loved it!
Turn My World Upside Down - Loved i

***HEARTBREAK HOTEL - SUPERFANTASTIC BOOK - THRILLED TO SEE IT ON THE LIST - I ALWAYS RECOMMEND IT.*** (That entire trilogy was wonderful)

    Almost Perfect - v.g. series

    Dare Me anthol.

    Naked Truth anthol.
    Tiara Club
Table for 5 - EXCELLENT - HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE ALSO.

I have Bronwyn’s trilogy and several LaBrecques on my tbr.

Happy Father’s Day to all out there.

by Pat on June 17th, 2006 at 8:26 am

  5. I forgot your other question, sorry. No, it doesnt make a difference to me whether a book was a RITA nominee/winner.

by Pat on June 17th, 2006 at 8:27 am

  6. I read Worth Every Risk and I have A Taste of Crimson and Nothing To Fear in my TBR pile. There are several others I want to get. I buy books because I enjoy the author or the back blurb sounds good. I don’t pick them because they have won awards.

by Carol on June 17th, 2006 at 8:34 am

  7. Here are the ones that I have read or have in my TBR pile (most of them are in this pile  ):
    Spirited Away by Pamela Labud
This Rake of Mine by Elizabeth Boyle
The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
Sin and Sensibility by Suzanne Enoch
The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie
“Glad Rags” in The True Love Wedding Dress by Constance Brockway
The Naked Truth about Guys” in The Naked Truth by Alesia Holliday
“A Proper Englishwoman” in Talk of the Ton by Eloisa James
“Highland Handfast” in The Betrothal by Joanne Rock
    After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros
In Deep Voodoo by Stephanie Bond
The Marriage Trap by Elizabeth Thornton
    Bronwyn Jameson’s trilogy
When We Meet Again by Victoria Alexander
    Abbie’s Outlaw by Victoria Bylin
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long
The Texan’s Reward by Jodi Thomas
His Secondhand Wife by Cheryl St.John
The Tiara Club by Beverly Brandt

And no, it doesn’t matter to me if a book is a RITA finalist or winner. I’ll read or buy any book with a good story. Plus I usually get books when they are first released…before award finalists have been announced. I got the above books before they announced finalists.

by Jennifer Y. on June 17th, 2006 at 8:39 am

  8. It was actually a surprise to me that I had read as many as I had (being six!). It doesn’t make any different to me whether authors are nominated or not. If I hear good things around the place then I will read them, and I also tend to glom on authors once I read one of their books that I liked.

by Marg on June 17th, 2006 at 8:44 am

  9. It doesnt matter to me whether a book has been nominated for an award or not. I choose by author or storyline.

I too couldnt believe how many I have on my tbr, have actually read or want to get.

Some that I have read on the list are:
The Heartbreak Hotel - Jill Marie Landis
    Both of Maureen Childs
Table for Five - Susan Wiggs
    Ghost Walk - Heather Graham
Survivor in Death - JD Robb

Several on the list that look interesting.

by Helen Mac on June 17th, 2006 at 8:56 am

  10. Here are some that I have read:

    The Perfect Rake -Anne Gracie
The Marriage Trap - Elizabeth Thornton
To Love a Thief - Julie Ann Long
The Heartbreak Hotel - Jill Marie Landis
    Ghost Walk - Heather Graham
Survivor in Death - JD Robb

And many more in the tbr pile:D

If a book wins an award it does not make me want to purchase or read that book any more than those books that do not get nominated or are winners. I have read tons of books that I felt should be given an award :D:D

by Kathleen on June 17th, 2006 at 9:50 am

  11. I have read 3 of them and others are in my tbr pile…okay piles:D

And no it does not matter if a book has earned an award for me to read it.

by Patricia on June 17th, 2006 at 9:53 am

  12. It’s fun to see what books are nominated for a RITA award but it absolutely does NOT help me to decide what books I am going to read.

I am surprised that I have read 5 of the books nominated!! And more to come!

by Maureen on June 17th, 2006 at 9:55 am

  13. I’ve read the following:

Under the Mistletoe - Kristin Hardy
Her Last Defense - Vickie Taylor
    Ghost Walk - Heather Graham
    Suspicious - Heather Graham
Table for Five - Susan Wiggs

There is one book I just saw on the list that I meant to purchase, but never did: In Deep Voodoo - Stephanie Bond. I’ll make sure to purchase this one now.
I normally don’t base my buying books on the RITA awards, though if I find out a book has been highly recommended or won several awards, I’ll take a seconed look at it.

by Sandra M. on June 17th, 2006 at 10:00 am

  14. It’s sad, but the only one I’ve read is “It Happened One Autumn” by Lisa Kleypas. I do have “Survivor in Death” in the old tbr pile, but that’s about it.

by Stacy ~ on June 17th, 2006 at 10:07 am

  15. I’ve read….

    Spirited Away by Pamela Labud
Worth Every Risk by Dianna Love Snell
    Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon
The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
    Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
“Highland Handfast” in The Betrothal by Joanne Rock
A Taste of Crimson by Marjorie Liu
Dark Lover by J. R. Ward
A Reputable Rake by Diane Gaston
    Abbie’s Outlaw by Victoria Bylin
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long

I have a few of the others on my TBB list. This is the first time I saw the winners list. I buy based on excerpts and friends recommendations, not on the awards.

by KimW on June 17th, 2006 at 10:13 am

  16. I have Ghostwalk, Nothing to Fear, and Blue Smoke on my tbr list. I usually choose a book because of the cover and the blurb on the back of the book. And I love when they have a little excerpt in the book on the front page.

by Amy S. on June 17th, 2006 at 10:15 am

  17. I’ve read Poison Study, Dark Lover, and A Taste of Crimson. I’m kind of suprised that Asaro and Sinclair are on the list — I thought they were both SF/F?

by Nonny on June 17th, 2006 at 11:00 am

  18. I have read
    Mr. Impossible
    The Devil to Pay
    A Most Unsuitable Man
    Dare Me anthology
    Talk of the Ton anthology
    Bite anthology
    Ghost Walk
    Taste of Crimson
    Dark Lover
    Crazy Hot
    Survivor in Death
    It Happened One Autumn
I love all of them. A few are now on my tbb list and there are others o nthe list that are on my tbr list.

by Kris on June 17th, 2006 at 11:29 am

  19. Wow, great list of books.

I dont buy a book because it has been nominated for an award. I buy it because it looks like a good read.

I have read: Dare Me and Ghost Walk and Survivor In Death from the list. I prefer suspense or romantic suspense.

by Karen T. on June 17th, 2006 at 11:43 am

  20. I’ve read the following:
In Deep Voodoo by Stephanie Bond
The Rich Stranger, Rugged Loner, Ruthless Groom by Bronwyn Jameson
You’ve Got Male by Elizabeth Bevarly

I have a few of the others in my TBR and TBB piles.
I dont read a book because it finaled in or won a RITA.

by Susan on June 17th, 2006 at 11:45 am

  21. These are a few books I have read but I don’t read books because the win.
    Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts
The Marriage Trap by Elizabeth Thornton
This Rake of Mine by Elizabeth Boyle

by Tammy G. on June 17th, 2006 at 11:48 am

  22. I have read

    Spirited Away by Pamela Labud
A Most Unsuitable Man by Jo Beverley
This Rake of Mine by Elizabeth Boyle
The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
Sin and Sensibility by Suzanne Enoch
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
    After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros
Dark Lover by J. R. Ward
When We Meet Again by Victoria Alexander
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long

Plus some more on my TBR pile:

Worth Every Risk by Dianna Love Snell
Under the Mistletoe by Kristin Hardy
A Taste of Crimson by Marjorie Liu
A Reputable Rake by Diane Gaston
The Rugged Loner by Bronwyn Jameson
The Ruthless Groom by Bronwyn Jameson

by Danny on June 17th, 2006 at 11:52 am

  23. I generally do not read a book based on award nominations. I have many authors that are autobuys for me. Otherwise, I choose by word of mouth, reviews, and excerpts. That being said, I have read quite a few nominees. They are:

“Highland Handfast” in The Betrothal by Joanne Rock
A Reputable Rake by Diane Gaston
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
This Rake of Mine by Elizabeth Boyle
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
You’ve Got Male by Elizabeth Bevarly
    Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
    The Perfect Rake -Anne Gracie
The Rich Stranger, The Rugged Loner, The Ruthless Groom by Bronwyn Jameson

I have more in my TBR pile as well. While I do not choose a book based on awards, I do think it is a nice affirmation for some really talented authors.

    Hugs, Zara :D

by Zara on June 17th, 2006 at 12:31 pm

  24. I too dont choose a book because it has been nominated for an award.

    I have read -
    Dare Me
    Survivor In Death
    Ghostwalk
    You’ve Got Male

by Joanne V. on June 17th, 2006 at 2:48 pm

  25. I have read Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts
Table for Five by Susan Wiggs
Survivor in Death by JD Robb
I don’t buy a book because it was nominated for an award. I buy most books by author.

by Estella Kissell on June 17th, 2006 at 3:47 pm

  26. I have read ALL the best single contemps - I have must have great taste! LOL. There are several other contemps I have on my tbr and see some more I would like to have.

I choose my books not by award wins or nominations but by recommendations, authors that I love to read and by reading the back blurbs.

by Helen L. on June 17th, 2006 at 3:53 pm

  27. I’ve read:

    Charmed & Dangerous
    Poison Study
    Mr. Impossible
    “The Naked Truth about Guys”
    “Blood Lust”
    My Shadow Warrior
    A Taste of Crimson
    After Midnight
    Dark Lover
    Survivor in Death
    Really Hot!
    One Night in Texas

    On my TBR:

    The Dark Queen
    In Deep Voodoo
    It Happened One Autumn
    To Love a Thief
    His Secondhand Wife

I always look at the list of RITA winners. From there, if a book looks interesting, I may pick it up. I can’t remember ever buying a book solely because of a contest, though. If a book cover/title intrigues me, I’ll read an excerpt and/or a few reviews if I can find them.

by Alyssa on June 17th, 2006 at 5:02 pm

  28. The following are one’s I have read or are going to read soon:

    Charmed & Dangerous
    Poison Study
    A Sheltering Love
    The Misted Cliffs

I do not buy books because they are RITA finalists. I buy based on how good the story sounds and also have automatic buy authors. Covers attract me to new authors to check a book further then I will go to book blurbs and excerpts to help me make my final decision.

by Cherie Japp on June 17th, 2006 at 5:19 pm

  29. I pick my books but what I think will interest me not by being on an award list.

I have read several on your list - mostly contemporaries.

    Happy weekend.

by Brenda R. on June 17th, 2006 at 6:19 pm

  30. I don’t ever buy a book because of the awards they have won or the nominations they receive. I have read

    Survivor in Death
    The Rugged Loner
    In Deep Voodoo

by Angie on June 17th, 2006 at 7:40 pm

  31. I too dont ever buy a book because of nominations or awards. If I like the author and the looks or the storyline, that does it for me.

I have read several of the books on the nomination list including Heartbreak Hotel,
and You Got Male. I also have the Jennifer LaBrecque book and the Bronwyn books on my tbr. I do read western historicals and that is pretty much the only historicals I do read. I am a contemporary type of gal.

by Maria on June 17th, 2006 at 9:21 pm

  32. I like to look at the award list and see who won. Sometimes I’ll go look for more information and decide whether to buy it. I’ve read these books so far.
    Mr. Impossible
    To Pleasure a Prince
    Under the Mistletoe
    Suvivor in Death
    Dare Me

by Karen G on June 17th, 2006 at 9:55 pm

  33. The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
Sin and Sensibility by Suzanne Enoch
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
“Blood Lust” in Bite by Vickie Taylor
    After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas

by Jenny on June 17th, 2006 at 10:14 pm

  34. I read the contemporary ones.
I don’t go by whether they have won an award.

by Robyn on June 17th, 2006 at 10:22 pm

  35. :P I also read the contemporary ones and I dont choose my books because they have been nominated for an award.

Some that I have read are:
    Ghost Walk
    Survivor in Death
    The Julie Ortolon one
    I’ve Got Male

I also have some on my tbr pile and see some that I would like to read. (not because they are nominated but because they look good - LOL!

by Lori D. on June 17th, 2006 at 10:33 pm

  36. Okay, I’ve read:

Show Her the Money by Stephanie Feagan
    Poison Study by Maria Snyder
Charmed and Dangerous by Candace Havens (okay, I started it and put it down months ago)
A Crazy Kind of Love by Maureen Child
    Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon
Miss Whitlow’s Turn by Jenna Mindel
    Crazy Hot by Tara Janzen
Survivor in Death by J.D. Robb
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas

On the TBR pile that I’ve bought:
You’ve Got Male by Elizabeth Bevarly
The Devil to Pay by Liz Carlyle
    Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
Sin and Sensibility by Suzanne Enoch
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
    Dare Me anthology
    Talk of the Ton anthology
The Misted Cliffs by Catherine Asaro
My Shadow Warrior by Jen Holling
A Taste of Crimson by Marjorie M. Liu
    After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros
    Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
Darker Than Midnight by Maggie Shayne
    Really Hot! by Jennifer LaBrecque
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long

And wow…that’s sad. I need to read more.

Anyone know why the cover to The Naked Truth anthology is wrong? It’s much much better than the actual cover.

I don’t really buy based on awards, but I’ll look on the lists to see if anything looks interesting.

by Nicole on June 17th, 2006 at 10:37 pm

  37. I pick a book by the authors I like or if the story looks interesting.

I have Bronwyn’s books on my tbr shelf and I think a few others; have to check.

I have read: Heartbreak Hotel - Jill Marie Landis & Really Hot - J. LaBrecque

by Patty B. on June 17th, 2006 at 10:46 pm

  38. I have only read 4 on the list but I have another three in the TBR pile. Haven’t ever bought a book because it won an award. I usually choose by author, back cover description, or a friend’s recommendation. I like hearing what other people thought about a book first.

by Julie C on June 18th, 2006 at 12:44 am

  39. i read both kristin hardy’s books but it doesn’t matter to me if they were nominated or not, i know what i like and i will read the books

by kim h on June 18th, 2006 at 2:38 am

  40. Ive read:
    Secondhand Bride by Cheryl Reavis
You’ve Got Male by Elizabeth Bevarly
Sin and Sensibility by Suzanne Enoch
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina J
To Love a Thief by Julie Ann Long
It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas
This Rake of Mine by Elizabeth Boyle
To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries
The Rich Stranger, The Rugged Loner, The Ruthless Groom by Bronwyn Jameson

    I have TBR:
    Ghost Walk by Heather Graham
    After Midnight-Theresa Medeiros

I don’t choose a book based on an award but mostly by past readings or recommendations of other readers.

by Laurie on June 18th, 2006 at 6:34 am

  41. I really don’t look for a book because it finaled or won an award, I pay more atention to other romance readers recommendations and excerpts that caught my interest. However, I feel happy when an author I like wins any award. :D

I have read just a few, but I loved all of them:
_ The Devil To Pay by Liz Carlyle (All her books are great! I buy anything with her name in it)
    - To Pleasure a Prince (Another favorite author)
    -After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros
-Miss Whitlow’s Turn by Jenna Mindel

There are a lot of authors I usually enjoy, but haven’t read the nominated books, specially in the historical categories. And others like Julie Ortolon whose older books I love, and I’ve seen many readers said that this book and the rest of the trilogy are even better. And JR Ward and Marjorie Liu that I read only one book by each (not the finalists ) and loved them. Looking at the list there are a lot that are in my TBR, but mostly because I like the authors, or have read great comments about them, not because they are finalists.

by Julia B. on June 18th, 2006 at 2:40 pm

  42. I relize that I read almost all of the authors listed on the right side of the screen.
I don’t realize that the books have won awards just that the books and the authors are wonderful. I have a wish list that I keep in my wallet and buy the books as they come into the store.

Since I read about two books a day there is no TBR pile.

    some of them are

    In Deep Voodoo
    Love is in the Heir
