Homework
Being a writer means having homework for the rest of your life. Lawrence Kasdan
I’ve never been good at homework. I always found something else I’d rather be doing. As a writer/publisher I enjoy what I’m doing, but I can be lured away from the computer by a sunny day or thought of driving to my favorite French pastry shop. However, anyone who runs their own business knows how important it is to organize your time. I’m still learning.
This month alone, I have a synopsis due, contest entries to judge and send in, I have to write my newsletter, send content to my webmaster, write content for my publicist, answer email from readers and colleagues, send in a full manuscript to another publisher and…ah no need to continue.
I try to schedule my time, but my life moves like the seasons. Winter…nothing happens then suddenly it’s spring and deadlines pop up everywhere. I race through summer and autumn then it’s winter again. I really am trying to get a handle of things, but I crammed in high school and college and seem to be doing the same now. Perhaps a part of me likes the rush of adrenalin or I’m a masochist.
My Dad bought a great book called How to Beat Procrastination. I’ll start reading it…tomorrow.
