Lions and Leprechauns and All Things March

Tawny Taylor

It’s March 1st! Yippee! Yay!

Imagine this thirty-cough-cough-something woman dressed head to toe in green, gaily skipping about her house, singing Spring Fever. No, I’m not a leprechaun wanna-be. I haven’t taken too many happy pills. And I am not a fan of country music. I’m just one of millions of unfortunate folks who live in northern North America. I’ve seen my share of frigid, dark winter days, thank you very much. Give me green grass. Flowers. Blue skies!

March is the month of the lion and the lamb. The original beginning of the year. The month we celebrate St. Patrick’s day, the first day of spring, and for folks with kids, Read Across America day. It’s also Feminine Empowerment Month (oh yeah!), Frozen Food Month (Bring on the Banquet!), International Hamburger & Pickle Month (hey, if Lydia Joyce can post about hamburgers, so can I ) and Talk with Your Teen about Sex Month (gulp!).

On a more personal note, March is the month I’ll be celebrating a new book release (Spells and Seduction) and the graduation of my oldest child from Army boot camp.

What does this post have to do with writing? Absolutely nothing. Reading? Well, I did mention that Read Across America Day. That counts…doesn’t it?

What’s March mean to you? Celebrating a personal achievement? A family member’s birthday? An anniversary? Share it and we can all celebrate together. I’m all for cyber celebrations .

And for those who have kids…If you haven’t already, read a book with them today. Share the joy of reading.

Happy March 1st!

Tawny

  1. March means lots of birthdays to me. My grandfather starts us off on the 4th, my niece is next on the 15, my daughter the 18, my grandmother-in-law also the 18th, my nephew the 20 and finally me on the 22!! We always have too much cake and too many balloons around the house for almost the entire month!

When I lived in Chicago I was extremely disappointed that it is always still cold in March. Nothing like my native-Florida where it starts getting warm and the scent of orange blossoms fills the air…another thing I like about March.

  2. After a few weeks of freezing temps in north Alabama, along with an icy weekend a week or so back, it’s nice to have temps hovering around 70. It won’t last, I’m sure, because Old Man Winter hasn’t given up on us yet. But I’m sure enjoying the warmer weather. A few trees are beginning to bloom or sprout leaves and I’ve even seen a few daffodils. However, some of the worst snows we’ve ever had were in March. I’m hoping this isn’t one of those years.

No birthdays in our family in March, but I just like to think of it as one step closer to warm weather.

And oh my gosh, Tawny, you don’t look old enough to have a child in the Army!

  3. March means birthdays in my family too! Only they are not really spread out. My brother-in-law and cousin have their birthdays on the 3rd and then my sister and another cousin have their birthdays on the 9th. We tend to share birthdays in my family, which is odd. This is not the only month where family members share a birthday.

It also means warmer weather…maybe…I hope

  4. March means hints of spring…here in my part of Georgia, the daffodils are already starting to bloom. We have 30 degree weather in the morning and its 70 degrees by noon! March 17th, St Patricks Day, my brothers birthday a double reason to celebrate!

  5. I am in Georgia too and have notice flowers blooming and wacky weather…don’t know what is going on. One week we were wearing shorts and the next we had snow flurries.

  6. I have a birthday in March. On the 4th. I have two cousins that have birthdays and my grandmother has a birthday this month. I love March. Spring is my favorite time of the year.

  8. March means to means Spring is almost here - a time for warmer weather, new beginnings and 2 bdays to 2 special people - my Mom will be 86 on March 7 and I am lucky to still have her in my life. My wonderful neice lives in Calif. and we dont get to see her much. She will be 19 on March 5 and is a bubbly girl and very pretty too. She was a wonderful additon to my daughter’s September wedding party.

  9. Whoo hoo! Look at all those birthdays

Eating a piece of cyber cake (no calories) with each of you/your family members!

I’m SO anxious for spring. Is it must me or is March one looooong month? LOL Here in Michigan, March can be crazy weather-wise. Warm and spring-like and then back to blistering cold. Brrrrr!

And Marilyn. I may not “know” you…but I’ve gotta love you for that sweet compliment  Thank you! I have children ranging in age from 18-1/2 to 1-1/2 yrs (yes, one and a half). It’s the little ones, I think. They keep me young. I’m too busy chasing them out of trouble to slow down.

THANK YOU! Each of you. For sharing what March means to you. Florida in March {sigh…} Sounds like heaven!

  10. Lots of birthdays in March for me, too. Must be all those June brides - LOL.

Here in Chicagoland it’s cold. Not that it’s unexpected, but it’s March, and I can’t help but think if spring break, and yeah, people don’t really think Chicago when they think spring break, but in my mind I see beaches and endless sun. So if I picture it long enough, maybe it’ll come true. Sure, in about 3 months….

Um, Tawny, if that’s really you, you must have had your first at age 10!

  11. LOL Stacy!

I’ll have you know, I was a respectable age when I had my first child. Well past the age of consent. :grin:You ladies are being too kind!
