Karen Kendall was born in New Jersey but moved to Austin, Texas at the ripe old age of four. She grew into a dreamer who had to be jolted back into reality in the classroom, and was often found guilty of reading a paperback novel hidden behind her algebra text. She graduated from Smith college with a major in the most impractical subject she could find: art history with a concentration in contemporary art.

While going back to school intent on a Master’s in art history, she worked three jobs and finished all her course work, only to be told by an inner voice to write a novel instead of her thesis! The Goddess of Impracticality had struck again. She followed her guidance and wrote four manuscripts before the last one sold in a two-book contract to Avon. That book was Something About Cecily.

Since then, her books have won the Book Buyer's Best, the Write Touch and R.T.'s Reviewer's Choice awards. They have also finaled in numerous other contests. She continues to write and dream, but wishes she'd paid more attention to math. Why? Her husband, the knight with a shining spreadsheet, has to help her read her royalty statements!
